Help me save Gillett Pond!

Tax deductible
This is Gillett Pond, a local spot for canoeing and fishing, for ice skating and snow shoeing, and for hiking and bird watching. On September 16th, I'm attempting a 75 mile solo bike ride, from Richmond, VT to Whitehall, NY, to help save the Pond from being drained.

The small dam that creates Gillett Pond is over 100 years old, and Dam Code has apparently changed over the years. When the state recently mandated that the dam be rebuilt or the Pond drained, the owner opted for the latter. The residents of the Pond’s bordering towns then rallied and quickly raised over $100,000 to buy the land. The next step is to rebuild the dam, a project that is much, much more expensive.

Although significant local conservation funds have been committed to the project, we must rely on private donors for most of the project’s remaining cost – over $300,000. It’s an ambitious goal, but an important one. Please consider supporting my hellish bike ride. Whether it's $0.10, $1, or $10 per mile (or $300,000 if you have it lying around) - it all helps. Plus the fundraiser is for a non-profit, so your donation may be tax deductible!

I thank you, the residents of Richmond and Huntington thank you, and my children thank you!
