Help Wendy Beat Lyme disease!!

Donation protected

Meet Wendy. Devoted mother to her 10 year old son Jackson, beloved daughter of Marton and Marilyn and our cherished friend.

Today, simple day-to-day tasks are an impossibility. Wendy spends approximately 80% of her time incapacitated. Either experiencing debilitating seizures or attempting to recover from them and other extremely debilitting symptoms.

Sadly, Wendy’s marriage ended in 2015 and both Jackson and Wendy moved in with Wendy’s elderly parents, Marilyn and Marton. They have their own health conditions to contend with. Marilyn, who is 73, has her own health issues and Marton is wheelchair bound with degenerative muscular dystrophy. Currently Marilyn is the sole carer for Marton, Wendy and Jackson. No mean feat for anyone, but she cares for them all without complaint!

Wendy needs treatment urgently! She has lost quality of life, but as her disease is progressive, ultimately if not treated the prognosis is permanent brain complications or possible death. At present, she is at the chronic stage. The only treatment unfortunately is not in Australia. Why?

Lyme Disease – Wendy’s daily companion!
Wendy has been battling Lyme Disease in its most aggressive form for the past 8 years, with a firm diagnosis gained when a blood sample was sent to the IGeneX Laboratory in USA (http://www.igenex.com/). One of the worlds’ leading laboratories specialising in Lyme Disease detection. Lyme Disease is caused by the bacteria borrelia, transmitted via a tick bite.(http://www.lymedisease.org.au/)

Currently the Australian Government do not recognize Lyme Disease in Australia. They believe the parasite that transfers from ticks to humans, borrelia burgdorferi, has not been found in Australian ticks. However, there a thousands of forms of Borrelia that can all result in the same symptoms, but supposebly the exact form that exisits in Australia to cause these extensive list of symptoms. As a result patients, like Wendy, with Lyme Disease have no targeted medical treatment in Australia. Wendy has been turned away from many doctors who have dismissed her symptoms as ‘all in your head’ and sincere doctors that acknowledge the disease and want to treat patients are either out of reach or loosing their licence to practise as a result.  Imagine the complete isolation knowing there is no real help here!

A Lyme Disease sufferer usually has many co-infections. Wendy has been diagnosed with the following co-infections: babesia, bartonella, rickettsia, chlamydia pneumonia, mycoplasma and neuroberrolisis.

Typically, Lyme Disease has a series of symptoms. Wendy’s symptoms sit in the chronic category, including:
headaches;
regular severe seizures – sometimes lasting over an hour
facial paralysis
twitching
chronic pain to joints, muscles and nerves
severe fatigue
tinnitus
severe light/noise sensitivity
floating black specs
night sweats
blood/heart infection
Numerous GI track symptoms
..........and the list goes on.

In the early 2000s Wendy experienced a series of viruses that left her hospitalized in full isolation for 5 days. On another occasion, Wendy’s esophagus shut down completely leaving her unable to eat and drink for 6 weeks, necessitating hospitalisation. Whilst hospitalised Wendy was also diagnosed with staph aureus and received weeks of antibiotic treatment. Nothing has improved her symptoms.

In 2007, Wendy and her husband had the wonderful privilege of giving birth to baby Jackson. Wendy’s health though, continued to deteriorate with the contraction of multiple infections. Two years ago, she began experiencing seizures periodically. They have now become a daily occurrence, lasting up to an hour even with medication. These seizures are due to the parasites having now migrated to her brain, impairing Wendy’s brain function. It is hard to comprehend the total helplessness of the situation but this is Wendy’s current predicament. How can you help!

Why a Go Fund Me Campaign
Wendy’s current medication regime, together with a myriad of medical visits requires a huge financial investment. Wendy’s family has pulled some funds to enable Wendy to receive much needed treatment. However, with no treatment offered in Australia, Wendy’s only avenue is to travel overseas. This is an expensive expedition with anticipated costs for travel, two treatments and associated accommodation totaling approximately $30,000.

Your kind donation will reduce the financial burden and enable Wendy to tackle the medical treatment with one less worry.

The Treatment
Wendy’s Lyme-literate doctor has recommended hyperthermia treatment, as the best option currently available to her. This treatment is regularly used for Lyme Disease suffers around the world and is offered in America, Germany, Greece and Malaysia. The treatment has had impressive results with many Australian’s. Wendy has opted to have the treatment in Malaysia simply due to location – it’s only an 8 hour flight and the cheapest location!

As her friends and family we cannot stand by and watch her deteriorate any further. It’s time for action! Will you stand along side us as we support Wendy and help her gain back her life?

Thank you for taking the time to understand Wendy’s situation. It is with heartfelt gratitude that we say thank you for your support.

Please visit us regularly as we will post regular updates on Wendy’s treatment and progress.
