National PFLAG spokesperson, Shelley Argent (pictured above with her son James), has done so much to stop a damaging marriage equality plebiscite from going ahead. Shelley and her husband Don have spent over $200,000 from their own pockets on one of the most effective campaigns in Australian LGBTI history.
Now Shelley needs our help to continue the fight, and win a free vote to finally make marriage equality law.
We want to raise $50,000 to continue Shelley’s great work on behalf of her gay son and all LGBTI Australians. Join her in supporting the campaign, so we can keep the pressure on to make marriage equality law, once and for all.

How did Shelley help stop the plebiscite?
Shelley funded the makeitlaw website, which saw politicians receive over a quarter of a million emails from plebiscite opponents. She funded groundbreaking research that found the Australian LGBTI community opposes a plebiscite under all circumstances, that the broader Australian community also opposes the idea, and that LGBTI people in Ireland are still suffering from the hatefulness of their marriage equality referendum. She also funded ads that highlighted opposition to a plebiscite across the community, and lobbying by PFLAG and other voices against a plebiscite.
What’s our plan to pass marriage equality law in parliament?
Shelley and PFLAG now have a two-fold plan:
1. Pass a cross-party bill through the Senate where supporters of reform have the numbers now. A focus will be Labor Senators yet to vote for marriage equality.
2. Increase pressure for LNP members to have a free vote or cross the floor by working in the electorates of key Liberal and National Party members through social media, advertising and grassroots activation.
Our campaign will be polite and respectful, but it will also send a strong message to LNP members that they must act now.
