On January 25 2014 Loki, my 8 year old Great Dane suffered from GDV. Gastric Dilatation Volvulus or Bloat. Bloat, without emergency surgery is 100% deadly. He was admited to the only Vet that was open our local Emergency clinic and his deposit alone was $3100.00. I ran my only credit card... denied... again.. denied. I applied for care credit... denied. I have never had a need for a credit card, I always work for what I want and pay for it with money I've earned. I never believed in credit until this very moment... and I didn't have it. I called my parents in PA, crying so hard that I could barely speak. All I could get out was "$3000 or he dies" My amazing parents didn't hesitate, My dad said "try my card, see if it will work." I refused at first, but quickly realized that I had no other choice and I was lucky to have parents willing to loan me this much money at the drop of a hat. There was no way I could give up on Loki and let him die, and without paying the deposit the clinic refused to help him.
I have worked as a vet tech for 5 years and I am now a professional dog groomer. I have been saving towards entering my first Grooming competiton in Atlanta this spring but now that I have these medical bills that dream will have to wait until next year.
Loki is the second of the three Great Danes that I have rescued and kept over the past 8 years. I have rescued, fostered , rehabilitated and rehomed dogs my entire life and grew up in a home that was always full of animals in need.
Two years ago Loki and I set up a fundraiser for pets and families with pets in need and we together raised over $350 and 400lbs of pet food for people facing losing their pets due to financial hardships. Now only two years later Loki and I find ourselves in that very same situation.
Please help me pay off this terrifying total! I live paycheck to paycheck and I really don't know how I will ever get these bills paid without the help of people like you.
