Help Kwik & Rok Rise From The Ashes

Donation protected
From the Friends of Ana Rokafella Garcia (Rok) and Gabriel Kwikstep (Kwik):
On February 25, 2017, our dear friends and colleagues suffered a devastating loss. Their home, where they lived for more than two decades, had a fire and they lost nearly everything. When the fire broke out it quickly engulfed and destroyed not only their furniture, treasured photos, clothing, and personal items and memorabilia that cannot be replaced, but Kwik also lost his Studio, DJ equipment and Conga drums. They don’t have a permanent place to live.
What do you do when faced with a serious, life-altering emergency like this? You turn to friends and family for support – moral support, emotional support, and even financial assistance. We are the friends of Rok and Kwik and we are working to amplify their call for support to the highest heights. Because we love and respect their invaluable contributions to hip hop culture, we have taken it upon ourselves to be their mouthpiece. We are asking everyone within our reach who are in the field of arts and culture to support Rok and Kwik during their time of need. This is a worldwide campaign to get Rok and Kwik back to work! We need them back to the work that they love so much, the work that has enriched peoples lives all over the world for more than two decades. You can help.
We have set up a GoFundMe campaign so that family, friends, colleagues, supporters, and fans can make a contribution to their Home/Work Recovery Fund. There is no way to put a dollar amount on all the things that were permanently damaged. This apartment that was destroyed was not only their personal home but it was their operational headquarters, their official place of business. The loss can easily be valued at six figure amount, no doubt. But as their friends, we’re only ask for the community to help raise an amount that will stabilize them, at a bare minimum, during and beyond this transition. The amount that we need to raise for them is $40,000. Every single dollar that is contributed will help. No amount is too big or too small.
For those who are unfamiliar with the historic work of Rok and Kwik, their impact in the dance world, and in our global community, then maybe you have seen them as the hip hop duo that has been featured on PBS "Visiones", in the movie “Brown Sugar” (starring Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan), and most recently in “The Get Down” on Netflix. They have performed at the Kennedy Center, The Smithsonian, received a BESSIE Award (which is like an Oscar or GRAMMY in the dance world), and countless other accolades. They are also educators, instructing people of all ages about the art and cultural relevance of hip hop dance and culture.
We always seem to step up in a time of need and we are hoping that this tradition will continue now. We are asking you to please open your hearts and aid this family with any donation you are able to provide at this time.
Our love and prayers are with the Rok and Kwik. Help spread the word. Share this link with others who can help. Let’s return the love and support that Rok and Kwik have embodied for more than 20 years.
