Birth can be a beautiful thing. A time of new life, joy, and family bonding. Yet for many moms it comes with pain, grief, trama and regret. For low income mothers this reality is almost unavoidable.
Research tells us that health (physical and emotional) outcomes for mothers and babies are greatly impacted by the goals they set, knowledge they gain, and support received prior to, during and immediately after birth.
Research has also shown that prenatal education, doula support, and breastfeeding preparation for mothers and babies can significantly improve the birth experience. We will provide all of these things to mothers for FREE!!!
Through a partnership between Together Inspiration Acts Inc and Precious Mommy Bumps, "Hello Mommy" will launch this Fall 2016. This pilot program will provide 6 mothers and their partners with a workbook, 12 weeks of interactive prenatal education (including nutrition, breastfeeding, birth plan drafting, exercising, relaxation practice and more), and postpartum doula services. Perinatal Edutainment will also be offered including educational fun & games for the whole family during the couple's Baby Shower. This is a smaller version of a larger vision that will help large funders see the value in a program like this.
Together Inspiration Acts Inc is a non-profit that promotes the health, safety and well-being of women, their children and the communities that support them through health education, health promotion & community engagement. Precious Mommy Bumps is a consulting company focusing on program development, implementation and evaluation.
The funds will be used to cover teaching aids, workbooks, educational videos, 36 hours of instruction and 12 hours of doula service.
