Heather's Medical Fund

My wife was born with a rare genetic disorder called Hyperinsulinism/Hyperamonimia. Basically what this means is that she has a combination of Diabetes along with a high amount of ammonia in her body. But the Diabetes is not like other people's, it is very hard to control. She has been on and off insulin for the past five years and we are still trying to figure out the best plan. Then there is the ammonia. We have tried different medications, but the side effects are worse than the cure. The best results have come from diet, but her numbers are still high. Most people have a measurement of 30 ammonia in their body, my wife's number is usually around 100. If her ammonia gets too high she becomes confused, dizzy and can pass out. 

Heather's geneticist has recommended she see a doctor in Philadelphia who is the leading expert in the world on this condition. We are hoping that the doctors at this hospital will be able to help her get her diabetes under better control and lower her ammonia count. In short we are hoping that they have some newer more cutting edge treatments.

This GoFundMe is not about paying our medical bills. We just need to make the trip to Philadelphia to meet with the doctors and see if there is something more that can be done. I just want to try everything possible for my wife, she has been through a lot in her life.

We are hoping to raise $2000 to cover airfare, hotel stay and meals for the two day trip. We can make the trip on less money, I think, but this amount would mean we could take a non stop flight in the daytime, instead of a connecting flight in the middle of the night. We will make the trip work on whatever amount we raise.
