Honor Flight Guardian for Harold

My grandfather, Harold Simpson, has been given the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Honor Flights trip to Washington DC this year. My mother, Mary, has been asked to accompany him on his trip.
For those of you who have not heard of the "Honor Flight” program, it is a fabulous charity that enables WWII and Korean War veterans & their guardian a chance to fly to Washington DC. The veterans are able to visit the monuments and receive recognition and support for their efforts during the war.
The Honor Flights program covers the entire cost for the veterans – they do not even pay for coffee - but the guardians do need to pay for their portion of the trip which is $1050 plus other expenses while in DC. This is a great chance for both my Grandfather & my Mother.
As a child, my grandfather did not speak much regarding the war but as an adult he began to tell me stories of his time in the Navy and on the Island of Guam. He does have some fond memories of his time in the Navy; meeting new friends & traveling but he also has some almost terrifying stories of his month long journey aboard a Navy carrier as a Seabee. That trip took him to the Island of Guam, which is where he spent the next 18 months and where he was stationed when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
The main picture above was taken when my Grandfather (left) was finally able to see his brother, Russ (right), whom after being a POW for years was finally able to return home. If you consider his age of 92 years, the time spent in the military was relatively short but his memories of those years will stay with him always.
It would mean so much to us for Mom to be able to take Grandpa on this once in a life time trip with other WWII veterans to see the wartime monuments and to enjoy the love and sense of celebration that is displayed for them during their trip.
We have been very blessed with loving friends that were able to get my Grandfather a spot for the trip this year and as a bonus they were also able to raise part of the money for the guardian’s trip expenses. We are only looking to raise $800 to cover the remaining amount along with any incidentals. Any help is warmly appreciated.
