Harmon For Seanad - NUI Panel
My name is Laura Harmon and I am running as an independent candidate for Seanad Éireann on the National University of Ireland panel. As a first time candidate, I seek to be a fresh voice for progressive values and a modern Ireland.
If elected, I will be a relentless campaigner for Seanad reform – everyone should have a vote in Seanad elections and the house needs new powers and a new purpose.
If I win I will be a champion for education - I firmly believe in a high quality education system that is accessible for all and publicly funded. We must diversify school patronage, end religious discrimination in admission policies and work to eliminate third level fees.
Finally, I will be an advocate for gender equality - it has been 35 years since a woman was elected to represent NUI graduates in the Seanad – if elected I will work hard for a repeal of the 8th amendment, for ending the gender pay gap, for proper investment in childcare and for greater funding for services that support the survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
However, I need your help and support to make this happen.
I aim to raise €5,000 to be able to send one leaflet to all voters. Any donation at all would make a huge difference to this campaign and every cent will be spent directly on reaching voters. A donation of €50 would enable me to buy over 1,000 leaflet.
