Gift of Sight for Nicaragua Poor

Imagine waiting for your eyesight to fail completely. Without surgery, that is the fate of Christian Duarte Galeano (age 6) and many other poor people in Nicaragua. Christian is awaiting corneal transplants for both eyes and will eventually be blind without surgery.
Five other children are awaiting strabismus surgery and over 80 people (mostly elderly) are awaiting cataract surgeries. The strabismus children will eventually lose vision in one eye without surgery. The people with cataracts have very poor vision in both eyes, worse than 20/200, and some are essentially blind in both eyes. Having cataract surgery to restore their eyesight is seen as a miracle by them, and it is their only hope.
Hopeful Ways (www.hopefulways.org) is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit committed to eliminating preventable blindness in Nicaragua through conducting eye care medical missions and financially supporting eye surgeries in cooperation with the non-profit FONIPRECE Eye Surgery Clinic (https://www.facebook.com/Foniprece/) and Nicaragua Lions Clubs. Even with free volunteer surgical labor, the cost of surgical supplies, medications and miscellaneous expenses will exceed $20,000.
This is a modest price for restoring eyesight to over 80 individuals, but outside the budget for our small all-volunteer non-profit. And paying for eye surgery costs is an impossibility for these Nicaraguan people. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere after Haiti. We are asking for your financial support, not for ourselves, but to restore the eyesight to over 80 special people. As an all-volunteer non-profit, all donations will be used to directly benefit the Nicaragua poor.
