WHY DONATE? - PILATE'S WATER CRISIS:
Recently, H.E.S.P. has received heart-breaking news from Pastor Julien Pierre-Michel who is the director of the school which H.E.S.P. is supporting in Pilate, Haiti. The cholera epidemic has reached this region and the water from the rivers and systems from which people have been drinking are now polluted. The cholera which was brought in by U.N. troops from Nepal has killed over 10,000 people in Haiti since 2010.
The only place that 40,000+ people in this region can obtain clean drinking water is from this school which has a well and a water purification machine operated by a generator. The water purification system is only supposed to run 6 hours per day. However, due to so much demand of hundreds of people in line for water, the equipment is running for 14 hours per day.
Just recently, the system has broken down and now there is a serious lack of clean water to drink.
