The Gruppemeister's Road to Recovery

In May of 2019 my father suffered from an Ischemic stroke that left him in the hospital for nearly a month battling his way through partial paralysis of his right side and significant loss of his speech and swallow functions. With lots of care and close attention in an acute rehabilitation center and after numerous physical, occupational and speech therapy sessions, he was able to improve his mobility and more importantly, his speech and swallow abilities.

After being discharged from acute care, he transitioned to a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility where he continued to work hard each and every day with the assistance of various nurses and therapists. At this time he now is able to walk short distances with assistance and has vastly improved use of his right side extremities, but he is still left dealing with only minimal speech and communication abilities.

While he continued to progress further down this road to recovery, unfortunately we were presented with news from his insurance that the rehabilitation services had been suspended after only 2½ short months of attempts to work with him.

Recognizing that everyone’s experiences with strokes and the symptoms that follow are vastly different from one another, we believe in his potential to improve even more than he has, and would like to try and pursue ongoing rehabilitation therapy sessions in an attempt to take things as far as possible to get our father, brother, friend and Gruppmeister back on his feet and as recovered as he can be.
