Protecting the Great Lakes

My friend Gordie and I are on a mission to help protect the Great Lakes. Our goal is to raise money for the Great Lakes and awareness about what's going on in them. We will be doing this by crossing the Mackinac Straits and getting word out to the media. A key thing we will be hitting on while raising is the controversial oil pipeline, Line 5. Recent debates have really made it a hot topic. There are positive and negative sides to this pipeline such as what would happen should the pipeline burst, and what Enbridge (the company that owns the pipeline) is doing to make sure the Great Lakes stay pure. This means a lot to Gordie and I because this is something that is right in our backyard and we need to protect it. We both spend countless hours in the water and I don't want to know what it's like to not have that privilege. Our science teacher, Kwin Morris, and a group of his friends paddle boarded across Lake Michigan in the summer of 2015. He was our inspiration to do this and has been helping us a ton all the way. Kwin and a couple other members from Stand Up For The Great Lakes (the group that crossed the Lake Michigan) will be crossing the Mackinac straits with us. All the money we raise will go to either helping us make the cross or the organization Stand Up For The Great Lakes.
