Chile’s Amputation

Donation protected
Chile is a beautiful, smart, and loving 1yr old Viszla mix that had the most unfortunate life to begin with until she came to me. She was a dog that was abandoned by her first owner and then again from her second owner. I found her running around the forest near our 3 acre property; scared, hungry, and alone. It took me 3 whole days to gain her trust to let me walk up to her and bring her into my home.

I fed her a good meal, gave her a bath, and posted her photos everywhere looking for her owner. A week later her owner came forward and informed me that she was no longer welcomed at his home and “she has issues of her own that she needed to deal with”. I told him that I would be willing to care for her until I found a proper home that could take her and he agreed.

Within two days I noticed she was having urinary incontinence and we started her on medication. She was doing so well on it.

Today 7/28/18 was the day I never knew I would have to face. Chile and my other 3 dogs were playing in the yard and I was throwing the ball for all of them and doing yard work. I threw the ball and turned around to finish cleaning our chicken pen and all of a sudden I hear the dogs barking and screaming. I run to them thinking they are fighting over the ball and then I saw  Chile limping, at first I thought she may have fell on it wrong and then I saw it. Her back right leg was limp and hanging: I knew she had broken it.

Luckily I work for an amazing vet clinic that got her in right away and get her pain medication in her system and start with some X-rays. She broke her femur, luckily it was one clean break so very easily fixable.
We have two options:
1. Fix the bone and place a plate to help stabilize it. This fix will cost close to $2000 and that doesn’t include the physical therapy sessions that she will have to go through.
2. Amputate the leg, as she is still young the success rate of this is a lot higher than if it was with an older dog. This cost is closer to $930 and won’t require physical therapy.
Both of these options are including my employee discount that I receive from working here.

Unfortunately due to cost we are leaning more towards amputation as we cannot afford placing a plate. We are really wanting her to have a long and fulfilling life with a potential new

This is terribly heartbreaking for me as I absolutely adore her and wish we could keep her. Any little bit helps for this beautiful girl to make a full recovery.
