Glenallan’s Makerspace program will bring tools and materials into K-5th grade classrooms that help students create, invent, and learn!
By using hands and brains to design, build, and test ideas with different tools and supplies students develop skills for critical thinking and creative problem solving. These skills build the foundation for future study in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math commonly known as STEM.
Makerspaces are places or kits with the tools and supplies to design, build, and test ideas in the classroom. Makerspaces or mobile kits can include simple building materials and craft supplies that students can use in an an unlimited number of ways to design a concept, build a model, and test ideas as they work through challenges and solve problems.
Students can work independently or in teams to build or make. The process of troubleshooting problems and reporting to the class about lessons learned helps students build critical thinking skills and perseverance.
Any student can be a maker and any classroom can be a Makerspace.
