Gizmo Needs your help

Donation protected

This is the last thing I ever wanted to do but at this point my options are financially very limited as I only work part time and I will do anything I can to help my little boy feel better. That handsome happy dog you see in the photo above is my Gizmo. He is a 7 year old papillon (mix?) I got him as a rescue at 3 years old. He had been rescued from a puppy mill, and had a lot of issues. He's my special boy. Around October 3rd he had started urinating blood, which got diagnosed as a UTI, and he was put on an antibiotic for that, we ran additional bloodwork just to make sure nothing else was going on. And that my friends is where the story gets topsy turvy. His bloodwork results came back and his blood platelet levels were low. So he was put on another antibiotic and a steroid which should help correct this issue. So he had developed Thrombocytopenia, Immune-mediated thrombocytopenia(IMT) is a very serious autoimmune disease in which a dog's body attacks its own blood platelets as though they are a pathogenic bacteria or virus.Thrombocytopenia is the technical word for low platelet count. Platelets are components of blood produced in bone marrow. Platelets are necessary for blood clotting and when a dog'sblood platelet count is low, it can lead to bruising, bleeding, anemia and other serious complications and can lead to dogs bleeding out internally. So we have been doing bloodwork every 48 hours to monitor his platelet levels and they keep dropping. He had an ultrasound done recently as well, and no tumors were found, just some abnormalities in his bladder but nothing that would attribute to his platelet levels getting lower. We ran a clotting test, and those results came back abnormal. Which means they are now not thinking it is true immune mediates, because if it was his clotting time would have come back normal. Clinically he is doing well, he is still eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally and as of Friday October 6th he had stopped urinating blood. He is still acting like his regular self. I am keeping his activity limited so he doesn't get hurt and get a bruise as that could be a very bad thing. We are looking into a few other tests and doing more research but it is very likely that we will have to take him up to Akron to see a specialist, and that is quite expensive. I am not sure what sorts of testing with the specialist may be needed as of right now. So at this point, This is truly a mystery that we are trying to solve, but I cannot do it alone. And that is where you come in. My dear family and friends. If you are willing and able to donate to help me cover some of Gizmo's medical expenses it would be so very greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps! If you cannot financially give please keep us in your prayers, send healing and positive energy to my little guy, whatever it is you do please do it. Anything helps! Thank you all in advance. *ANY UNUSED FUNDS WILL BE DONATED TO LOCAL ANIMAL RESCUES/SHELTERS OR TO HELP OTHERS WHO MAY NEED SOME HELP FOR THEIR PETS*
