Signature Soul Visits Ghana 2018

Signature Soul has been invited to travel to Ghana in July 2018 with the Gage Foundation International Girl Ambassadors for Human Rights. We are excited to be a part of this learning adventure, and we are grateful for moments we can cultivate creativity across continents! We started this GoFundMe to ask for financial support to be able to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity with the incredible youth ambassadors we have had the honor of working with this year.

Our intention is to raise $4,000 to cover the remaining expenses for this trip. All proceeds raised from this campaign will go directly to funding Signature Soul’s round-trip plane fare and any necessary visas and vaccinations required for traveling to Ghana. The cost of our plane tickets is $3,600 and has to be covered by May 15, 2018 to secure our travel with the group in July. $400 will help cover the cost for our visas and vaccinations. Additional donations will be used to support our ground fare and to purchase materials for creative expression workshops we will facilitate during our visit.

The International Girl Ambassadors program aims to make young women into leaders. The Girl Ambassadors are responsible for organizing programs, speakers and activities in different concentrations including: Women’s Rights, Haudenosaunee Cultural Exploration, Religious Freedom, Gender Justice, and Human Trafficking. Members organize presentations and activities to explore these topics through the perspective of religion, economy, and women’s status in the United States and in other countries.

The group has planned many educational and cultural experiences during this trip such as a stay in a fishing village; a visit to a national museum of Indigenous rights as well as a museum of transformative justice; a visit to Elmina Slave Fort; and a series of dance and drumming lessons. We will also interview several inspiring women discussing their journeys and resiliencies highlighting a school master, a tribal leader, refugees from Liberia, women from the Jewish village of Sefwe Wiawosa, and women of the LGBTQ+ community. In addition, we will be transporting donated books from the U.S. to support a local library in a Ghanaian village.

Signature Soul’s contributions cover a range of offerings. We will travel with the group as chaperones and guest artists. We will share our insight about the responsibility of global ambassadorship and the intangible power of creative expression. We will facilitate dialogues and workshops with youth that explore identity and cultural immersion. We also intend to collaborate musically and poetically with local Ghanaian artists that will continue beyond the stint of our trip. When we return to the U.S., we plan to share our experiences in the form of a poetic offering and potential chapbook featuring youth from this trip.

Supporting Signature Soul empowers us to passionately actualize our mission and vision: raising the collective consciousness one soul at a time. Your financial support means that we can continue practicing our Soul Work locally and internationally. It enables us to share our truths through hip hop, music, and poetry/spoken word, and invites continuous inspiration for boundless creative endeavors. It allows us to expose elements of creative expression by encouraging individuals to discover the power of their voice and potential to catalyze positive change.

We have worked with international youth populations in a variety of settings across the country, yet this will be our first experience cultivating community and creativity outside the United States . We are filled with the utmost gratitude having the opportunity to travel to Ghana with the Gage Foundation International Girl Ambassadors for Human Rights. We will share experiences and reflections from our journey through social media while we travel to let supporters know what we are up to!
