Willkommen auf meiner GoFundMe Seite! (Welcome to my GoFundMe Page!) Many of you already know me but just in case you are a stranger, my name is Heath Martin, I am a Junior at Oregon Institute of Technology studying Information Technology with a focus on Data Analysis and a minor in Psychology.
For a little over a year now I have been diligently working on achieving a goal of mine to study abroad in Germany. After a whole lot of obstacles, I am signed up for Immersive German Language course through Sprachenakademie in Aachen, Germany! I will also be enrolled in two IT courses so that I can continue my degree alongside my language learning.
Assured that all was ready to go, I paid for my courses and my housing (~€4,500). However, I just found out that my Third Party sponsorship plan to prove "Means of Subsistence" for my Visa will not be sufficient--UGH! So now I have to open up a Secure German Bank Account, in which I must deposit a minimum of €8,640. Depending on the given currency rates and the surcharge of an International wire transfer, I currently have only €6700 - 7,100.
Why am I desperately trying to raise another $2,500? There are two main reasons. The exchange rate is unpredictable, and if I don't pad things, I may NOT have enough to open the account and secure my Visa for the year (as opposed to only stay for 3 months!). If the exchange rate remains low the extra money will act as a safety net since the bank account could take up to two weeks to be opened and active. And it can be another week or two before my visa is approved, while in this waiting period I will be unable to touch the money in my account, so it would be beneficial to have money on hand for living expenses during this period.
Please don’t let my dream to study in Germany crash and burn due to bureaucratic nonsense. This is something I have been fighting for this entire year and now I am so close I can almost taste it, only 18 days before I board my flight to Germany!
If 250 friends donate the cost of 2 beers (assuming they are $5 craft beers, so $10) I can have the peace of mind of knowing that I will be granted my visa and not have to miss out on this wonderful opportunity!
