Please consider a donation to help the GearHeadz raise the $15,000 needed to advance to the FIRST Robotics Competition. These are very hardworking kids, and The GearHeadz have proven they are among the top robotics teams in the nation.   In their five years of existence, they have won three Long Island championships and have competed in three international competitions.  This year, they represented Long Island in the North American Open Invitational Championship Tournament and won the 2nd Place Programming Award.  They placed 5th overall!

They want to continue to represent the area as they take on a new challenge.

The GearHeadz is a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team led by Dr. Chris Pinkenburg, a physicist from Brookhaven National Lab. It is a community-based team which began in 2012 as part of the FIRST Lego League (FLL) program, and advanced into the FRC ranks in 2016. It recently affiliated with the Tesla Science Center in Shoreham, New York.  The kids on the team all currently reside in Rocky Point, NY.

In February, the GearHeadz were crowned Second Place Champions in the FLL Long Island Championship Tournament, and went on to represent the area in the North American Open Invitational Championship Tournament in May 2016. The GearHeadz competed against 74 teams -- all regional and state champions from the US and Canada -- as well as international guests from Germany and South Korea. Their hard work paid off: they placed 5th in the robotics competition and won the prestigious 2nd place programming award. This award recognizes a team that utilizes outstanding programming principles, including clear, concise and reusable code that allows their robot to perform challenge missions autonomously and consistently.

This is unprecedented on Long Island ---and says a lot about the capabilities of these young people. They are certainly ready to take on a new challenge as a more advanced FRC team.

Please consider a donation, because without the community's help, they will not be able compete.
