Clarkston Lacrosse Game for a Cure

Donation protected
On April 29, 2017, the Clarkston Lacrosse Community's men's and women's teams will host its 12th Annual Game for a Cure. This event started as a tribute to Frank "Big Poppa" Kaminskas, a great father, grandfather, uncle, coach and friend whose positive influence has made a lasting impact on so many. Clarkston Lacrosse continues to recognize Big Poppa each year through Game for a Cure, to honor his legacy of teaching lacrosse to a new generation of players, and giving back to others in the community.

Each spring, a day is set aside to play lacrosse with a greater purpose. Over the past eleven years, this event has grown from one game to many. It has expanded to include youth lacrosse leagues from around the state, neighboring communities and local businesses. Lacrosse games are played throughout the day. This year Clarkston will be hosting teams from Stoney Creek High School, Powers Catholic High School, along with youth teams from Troy and Rochester. In addition it is a day spent remembering and celebrating the people in our lives that have been affected by cancer, while raising dollars for St. Joseph-Mercy Oakland’s Cancer Research Center.

St. Joseph Mercy-Oakland Cancer Research Center is a member of a national consortium of oncology specialists that focuses on finding new and effective ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. The Center is also a huge advocate for its patients. With the support of $85,000 of funds raised by Game for a Cure in the past, the Center has been able to develop and implement programs. Equally as important, the money raised has directly helped local families and cancer patients have better access to the treatment and the support they need. The money, our goal of $15,000, would put that 13 year total to $100,000!

As one can imagine, the Game for a Cure is a huge undertaking. The event is organized and executed entirely by volunteers. EVERY dollar raised during this very worthy event is donated to St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Research Center in the hopes of one day curing cancer. But, in order for that to happen, financial support from the community is also needed. Please consider making a donation to this very worthy cause, remembering that every dollar donated will go to help find a cure for acancer. Together let's "Stick It" to cancer!
