Galena’s Colic Care Fund

As many already know, Galena became ill Tuesday evening and went in for emergency colic surgery Wednesday at BW Furlong’s. She had masses in the wall of her small intestine and the affected areas were resected. She remained strong in recovery on Thursday, but by Friday morning she began needing to have her stomach drained every 2-3 hours as her digestive tract never restarted. Things were looking grim, even though Galena was bright, hungry, and had strong vitals. No one wanted to give up on Galena, so we didn’t.

Galena’s surgeon and the practice got together and found enough funds to donate a second surgery to Galena in an attempt to go in and find what the problem was. They found an additional segment of her small intestine that was no longer functioning so they removed that as well. Galena came out of the second surgery stronger than she did the first and has been holding steady all day today.  While it is still a waiting game to see how the rest will play out,  I do need to come to terms with the large vet bills that I will soon have to face. 

Galena has touched so many people all across the country. Her various roles have been a broodmare, young rider mount, FEI dressage, low level packer, first ride lesson horse, trail mount, hopping over the occasional jump, trick pony, subsitute therapy horse, and my best friend. No matter what the job is, she gives 110% which is why myself and her medical team have been giving her every chance possible to pull through. Any amount large or small or even sharing her story will help tremendously to keep up with the world class care Galena has been receiving. Thank you.
