Mr. Freeman's First Grade Classroom

Hello All! 

My name is Jeremy Freeman (or Mr. Freeman as of August 31st) and I will be teaching first grade at William Pinderhughes Elementary/Middle School this year. The school is located in the Sandton-Winchester neighborhood of Baltimore City, an area that received publicity due to the tragic arrest/death of Freddie Gray. During the ensuing civil unrest, media outlets chose to focus on students that damaged building, cars, etc. These students were cast as "thugs" and "barbarians" rather than as children that are full of energy and eager to channel it into something great for themselves and their communities. While I had already decided to teach in Baltimore months before, these events only fueled the fire within me to help bring transformational change to Baltimore City.

I don't claim to have all the answers, but I do know that our minds are our greatest weapons and I intend to sharpen young minds each and every day. While my students will only be in the first grade, it is my hope that they will come to understand that education can and will provide opportunities that may currently seem unattainable. Nothing is impossible and I am seeking any help that you may be able to provide so that my students will be set up for success this year and beyond...

I am seeking to furnish my classroom with reading carpets, books, posters, pencil, paper, etc. Every cent counts and I promise to keep you updated about my students, classroom and community as the school year advances.
