Help me present at INACSL 2016
Hi there! I'm Cara. I'm a nurse, but I work in the academe - as a simulation technician. I am in charge of the Clinical Skills Laboratory of the College of Nursing of UST in Manila, Philippines.
Part of my work in the laboratory includes preparing simulators for skills training. I developed a simulator that will help teach student nurses how to measure the 'central venous pressure' (pressure from within the big veins that bring blood back to your heart) of a patient- using ordinary hospital supplies. This allows students to learn the complex ICU-level skill without causing any harm to patients.
You can find more about the simulator here:
A low-cost improvised CVP monitoring simulator
The International Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) has invited me to hold a workshop on how to replicate homegrown solutions like the low-cost sim. The hands-on session is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and will be held in Grapevine, Texas on June 16-18, 2016.
You can find the conference program here and see my session on page 14!
I need your help because I think that we need more low-cost simulators like these in developing countries, to allow our students to master higher-level skills safely and efficiently. Innovations that prioritize patient safety and maximize student learning are necessary to professional training.
Your help will get me to Texas, and we can advocate together for the innovation and evolution of low-cost sims for healthcare training.
As early as now, please accept my endless thanks for your generosity!
