Elder Womans Best Friend Needs Help

Back in 2011, we had a terrible winter with record-breaking snowfall. That winter, a beautiful long-haired silver tomcat showed up on the porch. I had started calling him Fluffy Kitty, as he was a stray and that's the name that came into my head. I did not know then he would become a permanent resident, the friendliest cat I have ever met, and my widowed mother's best friend.

Once neutered, tested and inoculated, he became the epitome of the perfect indoor cat--and is happy to be so. No matter who comes into the house, Fluffy Kitty insists on being in their lap and pet... and his purr! The loudest,  most amazing purr. Everyone who meets Fluffy Kitty falls madly in love with him. He has made cat lovers out of non-cat people.

December 2016, directly after the death of her younger sister, my elderly mom's  Fluffy Kitty started to show signs of infection behind his right eye. After a month and a half of antibiotics, the extensive infection appeared to be gone and the vet gave him a clean bill of health. 

On Tuesday, Valentine's Day 2017, my mom was in the hospital for a surgical procedure. Her other cat, "Humphries" (Fluffy Kitty's best buddy) had a vet appointment that same day because he had not eaten in two days. It was bad teeth, so we were not too concerned. However, that morning, I noticed Fluffy Kitty, my mom's baby, acting unusual. He was hiding, quiet and did not purr... and for Fluffy Kitty to not purr is highly unusual. He looked confused and disoriented. He went to step off the sofa and fell instead. I brought him to the emergency vet.

Otherwise healthy, they concluded it was neurological and we had to transfer him 30 minutes away to a specialist the next day.  After an MRI (that pretty much put us in the poor house, but this is Fluffy Kitty, so my brother and I pooled together. I'm on disability, so that is a lot for me), the veterinary neurologist explained the infection was invading the cat's brain, but that he would have a good chance with brain surgery...

He had to go in and "clean out the infection" through the front of the brain where the nasal cavity is located. The veterinary neurologist was optimistic about the outcome of this surgery. My mom, though unable to afford such an expense, said she "cannot let her baby die."

Please help if you can. I cannot express how grateful my family will be with your help. I will keep this site updated on Fluffy Kitty's progress. Thank you so very much to all who offer aid to this worthy cause!

(Please read the updates; The "infection" was cancer!! The only thing that can save this amazing cat is chemo--a safe chemo that will not make him ill). Please help us save this fantastic and uniquely loving cat!
