Fiona Ferguson for Oldpark DEA

This May, we have a real opportunity to elect a socialist onto Belfast City Council for the Oldpark ward in North Belfast - an area that needs a break from the politics of the big parties more than most.

The big parties have been far too comfortable making decisions that affect the lives of people in North Belfast. They disgracefully voted for Welfare Reform measures like PIP and Universal Credit that are devastating working class communities; they voted to hand our local leisure centres over to a private business who has put up prices and lowered wages and conditions for staff and users; they have refused to take seriously the concerns about the Mater hospital; and year after year they have underfunded mental health services. We have felt these measures very sharply in North Belfast.

We deserve better.

And with Stormont not sitting , our local councils are now more important than ever. It's time for change. For all this and much, much more - we need a genuine alternative that's up for the fight. We want to be that alternative in the upcoming local election.

Elections cost a good deal of money. And unlike the big parties, we won't accept corporate funding because we won't be beholden to anyone but our members and our local constituents. . We rely on donations from our supporters - people who believe that we deserve better than the politics of the big parties.

If you can donate any amount, it will go a long way to helping our grassroots campaign. No amount is too small! Posters cost around £5 each so if you can afford around that amount, it's already a massive help. Of course, if you would like to donate more, we would be very appreciative.

We spend hours and hours of our personal time knocking doors, speaking to residents, holding meetings and handing out newsletters. Without your support, none of that would be possible. So please, consider donating to our campaign today.

Thank you!

ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

Fiona has been an activist on the ground in  North Belfast for three years and has witnessed first hand the way local communities have been failed by the politics of the big parties.

She has used her voice to campaign to save the Everton Mental Health Centre in Ardoyne, to stand up for the Mater hospital in the face of cuts, to show support for local teachers in North Belfast, and to offer support and assistance to so many in her community who are facing the hardship of welfare reform.

If elected, Fiona will bring the demands of communities in North Belfast to the floor of City Council where they have been ignored for far too long.
