Fighting Rising Homphobia

Many of us still feel the affects of the election on November 8. Some of it is a disbelief in the moral character of our country. Others feel shock of the disconnect from the economic strife that affects many Americans.
Others of us are downright scared.
Hate crimes against LGBT members have increased in an alarming way. These acts are not just being perpetrated in rural or more socially conservative areas...they are happening in Los Angeles, New York City, and in the SF Bay Area. Homophobics slurs are yelled proudly, gay flags are being burned, and violent outbursts against transgender people outside of gay bars all signal a rising tide of homophobia left in the wake of hateful rhetoric during the campaign season.
We now have senior elected officials that openly believe that being gay is a choice that can be cured by "conversions", and firmly believe that the Defense of Marriage act should and will be reinstated. A note left on a gay couple's car in North Carolina wrote: “Can’t wait until your ‘marriage’ is overturned by a real president. Gay families = burn in hell. Trump 2016.”
I recently signed up to volunteer for The Trevor Project , a nonprofit founded in 1998 that helps LGBT teens cope with crisis and suicide prevention. America will not grow kinder to vulnerable LGBT youth in the next years, and a donation to The Trevor Project will provide them with the tools and resources to prevent teens from being consumed by hatred.
