Michelle's fight with AML leukemia
In 2009 I was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia and infused with ATG Horse serum to save my life, in 2013 it went into remission and I've done well ever since. In January I had a follow up appointment with my hematologist, my blood work had dropped to a dangerous level and she ordered a bone marrow biopsy to see what was going on, well the sample was not a good one but pointed to AML Leukemia and she referred me back to Stanford Cancer Center to follow up. Two days after the first bone marrow biopsy my blood levels dropped even more and I needed two units of blood just to stay alive till I could
get to Stanford Cancer Center. That was March 15, 2017. On March 16th another Bone marrow biopsy was done and confirmed it was indeed AML leukemia on March 17th. I was already admitted to the hospital and they started chemo at 11:15 pm March 17. So far so good, but I'm concerned about the bills I'll be getting in the future to pay for my 6 weeks or more in the hospital, I've got Social Security Medicare right now and don't qualify for Medical. My boyfriend would love to be here with me and can get the time off work to be here but that means loss of his income as he's already used up his PTO and Vacation time. So money raised here will go to medical bills and expenses incurred while I'm in the hospital, I'm 4 to 5 hours North of Stanford Cancer Center so it's usually a night or two stay for me to go there for appointments. I just want to be home but know I'm getting the best care at Stanford Cancer Center right now and I can't be treated closer to home as they don't have what's needed for the level of care I need right now.
