Ferguson Police Dogs-Wellness Fund

We are Dan and Julie Wentz, veterinarians, and owners of Ferguson Animal Hospital in Ferguson, MO. We are raising money to provide a fund to be used for medical expenses for the K9 unit of the Ferguson Police Department. It is our privilege to provide the routine medical care for these fine K9 officers, and those who came before.
The Ferguson Police Department currently has four (4) K-9 officers serving the department. With the rigors of their training and job requirements, these unique canines can require specialized veterinary care, beyond the usual check-ups and vaccinations. This specialized care can be costly. Please help us enable our Police Department to establish a fund that will specifically provide for the specialized medical and dental care for these highly trained and valuable assets serving our police and providing outreach efforts to the community.
The Ferguson Police department has done so much for the community during periods of unrest. We have known some of these officers for over 20 years, and know them to be some of the finest officers in all of the St. Louis area. Our K9 officers have been instrumental in locating missing children and seniors, they assist in apprehending suspects, they are trained in narcotic detection, and they go to community events to do demonstrations of their specialized skills. They train hard, and work under difficult circumstances. It would mean the world to us, and the residents of Ferguson to know that their K9 officers are always able to receive the best veterinary medical care possible. This fund will allow that.

Just yesterday, K9 officer Anak required 2 root canal and titanium implants to save his lower canine teeth, which are necessary to do his job effectively, and without pain. This procedure was done by a board-certified veterinary dentist, Dr. Robert Ulbricht, at Associated Veterinary Specialists in Bridgeton, MO. The total cost of the procedure is approximately $1700, plus any aftercare he may need. It is important for us to have funds in place for our all of our Ferguson K9 officers, so the city budget, or their human partner does not bear the burden of emergency expenses. It would comforting to know that this fund exists for their ongoing costs and specialized or emergency care.
I ask you, if you support your local law enforcement, and understand how valuable our K9 officers are, please make a generous donation as soon as you are able. Thank you in advance--I believe that we can do this for the well-being of our K9 officers, and the safety of our beautiful community.
