Feed Milwaukee's Homeless

I live near Milwaukee. A year ago I spent my own money and together with my friend Brian we went to Walmart and bought 20 gift bags and filled them with hats, gloves, socks, and handwarmers.
Our intention was to give these bags to people living under bridges, on street corners, or in the typical homeless situations. We couldn't find anyone!
We asked people jogging if they'd seen any homeless people around, and they all said no. Eventually, we decided to just Google "homeless shelter" and found the Milwaukee Rescue Mission a few miles from where we were.
We drove around the back of the building and a worker told us to drop our gifts off in a bin. That didn't seem right to us. We had bought and made these gift bags in order to give DIRECTLY to the homeless. So we drove around to the front of the building.
As we got there, I hopped out of the truck with a gift bag in hand. I gave it out to a man walking by, and he asked me if I had more. I told him I did, and we waved down a bunch of his friends, who swarmed the truck.
Most of them kept their heads down, took our gifts, and walked away ashamed. One, however, turned around a few steps away. While holding the socks I had bought him, he shouted "THANK YOU! I really needed these!"
It was one of the most touching moments of the podcast, and we decided to continue it each year. We started with just a few hundred dollars, but this year we'd love to raise a whole lot more. Our goal is $1000, which will provide many more socks, gloves, hats, and handwarmers to folks who need them.
We are also are reaching out to local restaurants to give the Milwaukee homeless a great meal this holiday season. Ham? Turkey? No! Let's give them great BBQ ribs and awesome steak!
