FLASHLIGHTS LIGHT UP WORLD

THE FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP FLASHLIGHTS ARE HEADED TO NATIONALS!!!!

The FIRSTLEGO League (FLL)(www.firstlegoleague.org) challenges over 28,000 teams of students ages 9-16 in over 80 countries to think like scientists and engineers through the use of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to try to understand how the world works and to solve problems.  They build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS Technology to solve a set of missions.

FLASHLIGHTS is a group of 10 Franklin Township students (grades 4-6) and 2 coaches (Mr. Clatyon Moore and Mrs. Mary Nine) from Thompson Crossing Elementary School’s REACH program and Middle School East who said CHALLENGE ACCEPTED in August 2016.  Now they have won the township's FIRST EVER invite to the FIRSTLEGO League World Festival in St. Louis, MO this coming April!
Every year, FLL releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world specific topic.  This year’s Challenge is Animal Allies – What might become possible when animals and people help each other?  The Challenge consists of three parts:  the Robot Game, the Project, and the Core Values.  Teams participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by FLL’s Core Values.

The Flashlights worked before, during, and after school to compete at the Regional competition in November 2016, and earned an invitation to the State Finals.  At the State Finals in January, Purdue Polytechnic Columbus hosted 31 teams, and OUR FLASHLIGHTS WON!  This is the FIRST EVER state title for Franklin Township!  What an amazing accomplishment by these young folks for our township, community, and city.

BUT – they are still building....and need YOUR help!!!

It is so important these kids receive the appreciation, support, and acknowledgment from YOU - their community!  Our goal is to ensure every team member attends the World Festival regardless of cost!  Your donation helps ease the financial burden that can be daunting, and even downright impossible for many.  Our goal is to raise $10,000 - enough to pay for the entire team’s registration, four day, out-of-state competition, including hotels, meals, and travel.  Plus, it would pay for our two beloved teacher-coaches, who have volunteered countless hours to our kids, to attend as well.  (**If you wish to make a tax-deductible donation, you may do so by clicking here Thompson Crossing PTC - FLL )

Help spread the word by following our team and their progress on our Facebook page(@FTFlashlights )!  These young ladies and gentlemen are the future of our township and we should be PROUD to have them representing us! GO LIGHT UP WORLD FLASHLIGHTS!

Your Franklin Township First Lego League Team, Flashlights, thanks you in advance for your generosity and support.
