Our second round of fundraising is for our filming on a few reservations in Arizona and South Dakota this summer. All donations will go toward traveling: car rental, hotel, and all transportation requirements, rental equipment and cost for editing services of footage captured.
We have some great gift packages depending on your level of donation... as always, your name will be feature at the end of the film credits - you will be acknowledge as a supporter of "Native Cinema!"
So far we have been filming for a year! (time flies, yet we have been able to caputure some great footage in a year!)

How it started....
Yá'át'ééh (hello)!
I am a Navajo filmmaker living in Los Angeles. Inspired by the film “The Exiles”(1961) a neorealist film by Kent Mackenzie showing a true depiction of American Indians living in Los Angeles, I too want to bring to light the true lives of American Indians living in Los Angeles today. "The Exiles" film[delete] was a groundbreaking film in 1961; however, it is 2014 and Americans don't see us as contemporary Indians. Rather, they continue to hold only as stereotypes that have been recreated, updated and reinforced every generation so that most Angelenos and society as a whole see American Indians only as relics of the past.
Our documentary film will showcase a true depiction of American Indians living in Los Angeles today, while young adults will share their contemporary experiences of American Indians living in modern times.
What we've done thus far:
A year ago, we created a short multimedia of film and photography called LEGACY OF EXILED NDNZ which documents the lives of 7 young American Indians currently living in Los Angeles, California. This non-fiction story is told through the voice of a handful of young adults who have either migrated from their respective reservations over the course of their lives, or who continue to survive as offspring of families who relocated from various tribal reservations through the Indian Relocation Program enacted by the US Government in 1956. From their budding perspective we catch a glimpse into the maturing adolescent lives of a group of urban Indians as a tribute to the first generation of relocated (exiled) American Indians from the 1950s.
Our Future Plans:
We are expanding our short doc to a full-length documentary to show the lives of “Modern NDNZ” living in Los Angeles today, which to date has not been documented.
We will be following our young participants so viewers can understand tribal identity and the lives of modern Indians as they also share their understanding of the Relocation Era and its historical legacy.
We will follow each participant to their respective reservation so you can see the dual lives of our young Natives... one as an urban Indian and the other in their lives as members of tribal communities.
We Need Your Help!
Although we have raised funds for the initial phase, which was completed last year, we need additional funding in order to film at three different reservations this year: Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Seminole Tribe in Florida and Navajo Nation in Arizona/New Mexico. Please consider giving a donation so we can continue to film this year.
Where your donations will go:
We need $10,000 to continue filming in 2015. Although this is not enough to complete our film, it will provide us with funds to continue shooting in 2015 and provide an opportunity to capture the lives of our participants as they undergo life changes. Additionally, we will use the footage we are able to capture to use for additional funding from grants and other funding sources.
Every amount helps, and no contribution is too small. All donations made will go towards production,
- Traveling to respective reservation
- Equipment Rental – camera, lens, lighting, sound
- Post-production – editorial, colorist, sound tech
- Insurance, permits and transportation requirements
- Archival footage from the BIA, and museums
Our budget is tight and our production team promises to provide a high standard film.
We ensure that every dollar spent on this film will be seen on the final production and on screen!
