My name is Kathy Brown, and I am Peter Turner's mother. Even though his relationship with Evica Kennedy is still quite new, Peter cares very much for Evica and her children.
On Friday, July 1st a fire ripped through the trailer that Evica and her family rented. She and the children were not at home (thank goodness). The contents were not insured, however, and everything has been lost.
Evica and her 3 children (ages 12, 8 and 4) do not have a home now. Therefore, our first priority is securing affordable housing for her and the children.
Evica is fortunate to have a steady job she's been at for 11 years. Even though her salary is not enough to cover basic shelter needs in the Yellowknife housing market, she earns just enough that she can't qualify for any subsidies.
We've been working together to identify and access the emergency resources that are available. While there have been many kind offers of furniture, food and other items, Evica is unable to make use of these until she has a home to put them in.
We are relying on your generosity to help Evica afford a safe place to live, and help restore this family's lives to some form of normalcy.
