Get Evelyn to AFRICA!

My mother always warned me about how my children were going to be worse than I was as a kid. But I'm here to let my mom know that she WAS wrong about ONE (just one ;) thing: My Daughter, Her Namesake, OUR "EVELYN", whom is NOTHING like the terror I was, but more like the warrior that she (my mom) is! And at 40 I am now seeing that everything my mother wanted me to be, Evelyn has became.

Evelyn is a senior in high school, and she works SO HARD at everything that she does. She has always been an stellar student, well mannered young woman, and extremely determined athlete, who has also recently become a championship winning rower. Her love for Math has her seeking a degree in Actuarial Science come Fall (the college acceptance letters are already rolling in), and her maturing into a beautiful young African American woman has developed her voice. This voice has fueled Evelyn's sense of Community, Compassion and Diversity.  On top of her rigorous schoolwork and daily rowing practices, Evelyn facilitates Diversity Dialogs at her school and in its community.  She is a leader in Affinity Clubs, and several other clubs at her school.

This semester, via an essay Evelyn wrote about broadening her voice in Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, she was selected to travel abroad to South Africa for an educational learning experience for the month of January,  which is hosted by her school and the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Based on their signature Entrepreneurial Leadership curriculum, this mission is to contribute to the transformation of Africa by developing a powerful network of over 6,000 leaders over 50 years who will work together to address the continent’s greatest challenges, achieve extraordinary social impact, and accelerate the continent's growth trajectory. Evelyn will be studying alongside an extraordinary coterie of outstanding students who are recruited from across the African continent.

Evelyn has accomplished so much, and I am so proud of her and all of the dedication she puts forth in everything that she does.  We break the bank, wallet, piggy bank, and eat peanut-butter sandwiches ;) so this extraordinary young woman gets the opportunities she deserves, but sometimes, and on short notices, it's not enough.  The program fee for the trip which is not covered by her high school tuition (including airfare, meals, transportation, etc.) is roughly $4,000. Alongside of that,  travel vaccinations etc, would add on another $1000 . If you have anything that you can donate to help me raise enough money to cover this fee for our wonderful daughter, it would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance for anything you can do in support of this effort.
