Eugene Dalys Kidney Transplant

Donation protected

In 2000 my father Eugene, my indestructable hero, was diagnosed with Severe Chronic Kidney Disease.  The doctors told us that with a reigmine of medicine, a very strict diet and lifestyle changes he could maintain it.  My mother, his highschool sweetheart and wife of over 35 years works as an Aide for special ed children, but this day she became a full time nurse.  Over the years she made sure my father took his 13 pills a day, kept up with his countless doctors appointments, took his blood pressure 5 times a day while they both still worked full time.  Albeit suffering a stroke and losing his ability to do simple everyday tasks like mowing the lawn to things that he loved like hunting or hiking to a spot far back in the woods to go fishing or swimming in the lake, his kidneys were still functioning on their own; much longer then the doctors had expected.   That was up until December 2014 when he was admitted to the hospital when his Creatinine results came back and it showed they had risen to an 8.  Creatinine levels are normally between 0.6 to 1.2 milligrams for someone with a normal kidney function.  This meant that his kidneys were failing and officially put him in End Stage Renal Failure.  He was immediately put on Dialysis and I watched as my father sat for 5 hours at a time getting his blood taken out of him, cleaned and then put back in, in order to keep him alive.  He spent two weeks in the hospital, and it was the scariest two weeks of our families lives.  On Christmas Eve he was discharged and it was the best Christmas we ever had to have our father back home.  From here on out our lives were forever changed and he started a weekly dialysis treatment, driving 4 days a week 45 minutes each way for 4 hours a day.  Recently my father was able to switch to Peritoneal dialysis, which is done through a tube in his abdoman that hooks up to a machine and while he sleeps it works out the poisin and fluids that his kidneys are unable to rid his body of.  He has to have weekly check ups and monthly meetings with his Transplant team.  He has been phsyically cleared for a transplant and was deamed healthy enough just last week.  This means that my brother, myself and my mother can begin the testing to see which one of us is going to be the one to donate our kidney to him, since we are all the same blood type.  I could never put into words the joy this bought our family.  Like all good things, this joy ended quite fast.  Two days after the All Clear and go ahead to start transplant preperations my fathers work fired him and with it went his health insurance.  They told him he was not there enough and had previously told him multiple times that they needed a "schedule" of when he would need off due to his illness.  When they hired him they were well aware of his Kidney Failure and that health insurance was of paramount importance to him.  While the Kidney Foundation will help pay for the transplant, their financial assistance ends there.  My father and whichever one of us ends up being the donor will need anti rejection and various other medicine for the rest of our lives, on top of my fathers regular regimine of medicine for the many other issues his kidney disease has caused.  We are unsure how long my father will be out of work for or if he will even be able to return to work or find a job with his condition.  The Kidney Foundation has already put a hault on his transplant process until they know we will be able to pay for his after transplant care.  It is estimated that annually the upkeep of anti-rejection medicine costs $17,000 after a transplant, so that is what I have set our goal at.  Any donation that you can make will help save my fathers life and show that his life is worth saving.  I want my father to be the one to walk me down the aisle at my wedding, when I have children I want them to know their grandfather and have him there to teach them how to fish and spoil them.  I want my mother and him to be able to have another 35 years together.  It has been surreal to go from so hopeful to having all of that taken away right from underneath us.  Anything anyone can donate will be tremendously appreciated and my family and I would be beyond grateful if you even were able to share this post.  Thank you so much for reading and please know that you are truly helping save my fathers life.

FYI and Just a Reminder Incase you did not see the Update posted previously...
Until my parents are ready to withdraw the money and open up an account specifically for the funds to show the Kidney Foundation that we have funds set aside for my fathers aftercare to get him back on track and resume his surgery we are using my fiancés' and my parents future son in law, Allan, (who helped create this campaign for my father), information as a place holder. GFM requires you fill out the beneficiary information and my parents do not have a specific account set up yet to receive the funds so Allans information is what we are using until they are ready.  So for the few that were questioning this, here you go. But truly, we are so thankful and because of every one of you that donated and shared we are that much closer to being able to show the transplant team that we can afford my father's after care and his life is worth saving and the transplant is worth doing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
