Elvin and Ana's Home Damage

Donation protected
From their neighbors,

In 2016 Elvin and Ana were married and they began their life together in Rock Island, IL. For the next three years they focused on improving the aesthetics and value of their home, including landscaping, roofing, siding and flooring, that Elvin mortgaged just 2 years prior marriage.

In Mid-April the backyard began to sink. The step from their walkout lower level to their newly landscaped backyard has dropped off by a foot or so. To their surprise, on May 1st they noticed a crack in the floor of their garage that had not been there before. This crack was just the beginning of what would be a nightmare in literally days to follow. The cracks in the ground were giving way day by day causing the house to creak and moan as it shifted and twisted causing the separation of the house from the driveway. Large cracks throughout the home gave notice that within a matter of 2 days, Elvin and Ana knew it was unsafe to live in the house.

For the next week, the newlyweds would live out of a hotel while they tried to manage working their full-time careers and trying to seek help from the city they live in. They contacted FEMA and the insurance company. Yet everyone that came to look at their situation said they would not cover it and they would not help. There is no legal recourse for them.

Elvin and Ana are grateful for the kindness of neighbors who pulled together and were able to salvage a great many of their belongings before the city posted a sticker on their door deeming the house not fit for occupation. Also, after 3 weeks of their evacuation the city has notified them the need of the demolition of their home that has to be done in a short period of time. These and other ongoing expenses such as mortgage and taxes will not go away even under the circumstances.

They are safe and with friends, who were blessed by God to have a place for them to sleep at night, and very grateful for the good things has God has given them, despite all this can only be a temporary situation. They are not the kind of people who would ever take advantage of another. They are equally as generous and gracious. That’s why any money that is raised that is not used for this sole purpose will be paid forward.

Your contribution is the hand of God reaching out.

From the heart of Elvin and Ana,

As some of you might know, last month we had to evacuate our home due to the heavy rain damaging the soil in our property, making our home to move, shift, and gradually collapse.

Despite the unfortunate and difficult situation that we are going through, we are grateful for everything we have. We are blessed by having the most important things that matter the most and are necessary for us to continue moving forward. We have each other, we have family, we have a strong circle of friends, we are healthy, we have ambitions and we have lots of Love.

This situation has certainly affected us emotionally and financially, but together we can overcome this. We know we have a long road ahead of us, but we won’t give up. We will continue knocking on doors and with our heads held high until we find a solution to our situation.

Any contribution will be used to cover immediate expenses, including demolishing the house, temporary housing, obtaining legal support and coverage to some of the lost belongings. We have promised to ourselves that once we gain back our stability, your generosity will be paid forward to those going through similar or even worse situations. We want to truly Thank You for your compassion and kindness. May God bless you and your loved ones!
