Ellen Zban, multiple shot victim
The next steps for Ellen include being transported to Cleveland to undergo a series of surgeries to reconstruct her face and arm. Her arm will require a significant amount of rehabilitation before she is able to regain functionality. Happily though, with the appropriate support, the doctors DO believe Ellen can make a full recovery in time. We are all very thankful and relieved that Ellen is on the road to recovery but she needs our help as a community to support her through this incredibly trying time.
Perhaps most inspiring is that, despite all of this, Ellen refuses to identify as a victim. She has never wavered from her positive mindset and her positive energy has been infectious to those around her. She is a survivor that is ready to take all the forthcoming challenges head-on!
We are asking you to please donate any amount of money to help Ellen as she navigates this journey.
Who is Ellen?
Anyone who knows Ellen understands that she is an advocate for compassion and community building. She focuses all of her time and energy on animal advocacy and is a co-founder of the Mahoning Valley Vegan group, in which she brings members of her community together to raise awareness to the suffering of animals. She also works closely with animal rescue groups in the Youngstown area. Any friend of her has heard of “The Beast”, her dog Riley/master of destruction – despite all the trials and tribulations he has put her through, she simply refuses give up on him. So, we are asking the community to not give up on Ellen and give her the support she needs to make it through this horrible event.
Reasons for money:
Help defray medical costs including her emergency medical costs, follow up surgeries, rehabilitation, and personal support/home care.
Pay for a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who did this to Ellen. As of now, the shooter is unknown and at large. UPDATE: A family member asked me to communicate that anyone interested in contributing to this in particular should contact Canine Crusaders, as they are the ones who are controlling the reward funds.
Help Ellen pay living costs - Her injuries will leave her with reduced mobility and will require a significant amount of rehab. So Ellen will not be able to go to work right away and will need to pay for rent, utilities, food, and transportation support.
Help support her animals - Ellen saved multiple cats and her sweet pup, Riley (a.k.a. The Beast - a 100 lb. mutt full of love and destruction). Surely, Ellen will not be able to care for Riley on her own due to her injuries and his size. Ellen currently has someone who graciously volunteered to care for Riley in the short term, but she may need money to help defray future costs of a helper to care for Riley and her rescue cats while she recovers.
So sorry this happened to you Ellen. Both Pat & I wish you a very speedy and healthy recovery. Best wishes.
Contact he state Victims of Crime Dept. There are monies there Ellen may be eligible for! So sorry this happened. Healing prayers.
