Ecuador's Earthquake Relief

I spent my childhood growing up in Ecuador and visiting many communities though out the country. Some of my most cherished memories are of helping my parents with medical brigades and other charity events made possible by the dedication and service of the Guayaquil chapter of Rotary International. My father, Fernando Aguirre Palacios, is the Chief of Cardiology at Guayaquil Military Hospital and former president of Guayaquil Rotary Club.
As you may know Ecuador was devastated by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on Saturday April 16, 2016 and has experienced numerous aftershocks of magnitude 4.5 and greater. The current death toll is in the hundreds, while reports of serious injuries have soared to over 1500. Furthermore, the cities affected are isolated from aid, with communication and transportation being limited. Power and Internet has been compromised in many areas, and water distribution has been disrupted. Thousands are missing and out of contact with their families.
After a frantic night, I have thankfully confirmed my parents and extended family are uninjured. Unfortunately many are not so lucky. Even as my parents and many in Guayaquil cope with the extreme structural damage to their homes, my parents say there is a sense of unification and solidarity. Fernando, Rotary Club, and all who are able and willing, are focused to turn their efforts to those most affected by this crisis. They are organizing to move food, water, and medical aid to areas in need. This is an urgent situation and we are asking for your help to fund a relief effort for those in dire need. All funds raised will be used by Dr. Fernando Aguirre and his team, in coordination with the Rotary Club "Guayaquil", solely for the purpose of providing medical supplies and emergency relief.
