As a fellow traveler on a path of faith, I have been called to a medical ministry in a far off place in the Himalaya mountains. In this 12,000 foot high Himalayan Valley, surrounded by 24,000 foot glacial peaks, the people are isolated from the rest of the world each winter as the only road in and out is buried in snow and temperatures drop to -40° F. Every year, as the cold settles in, the healthcare needs become more critical. I said yes to a team needing a gynecologist in 2016 and prepare to return for my third medical camp in 2018 (May 30-June 30). I am so thankful for my family, friends, Helena friends, Facebook community, and  church family and their prayers and support. I really feel we, as fellow human beings, benefit from their many prayers; prayers for all sentient beings; prayed by a humble, compassionate, happy, and poor people in a remote part of the world.

The Zanskar Valley in India is one of the most remote inhabited regions of the world. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has said “this is the last remaining authentic Buddhist culture.” In this 12,000 foot high Himalayan Valley, surrounded by 24,000 foot glacial peaks, the people are isolated from the rest of the world each winter as the only road in and out is buried in snow and temperatures drop to -40° F. Every year, as the cold settles in, the healthcare needs become more critical.

Hands On Global is providing yearly medical camps based at the Sowa Rigpa Hospital in Padum. General medical screening and basic treatment, including a women health clinic, is provided by both allopathic and integrative medical professionals and support staff. The team works with local translators. Education of the local health care workers is a major focus of the camp in collaboration with traditional Amchis (indigenous healers). Satellite teams travel to remote village areas to see those unable to walk to the hospital. Each year, at the invitation of the local Zanskar health committee and the Dalai Lama, we build on our camp as we identify the needs of the population.

You can help. This year, in addition to financial support for our hospital needs, I am collecting 1) elastic wrist, ankle, back, knee braces (they can be used, just drop them in the washer) 2) reading glasses 3) sunglasses (uv protective). Please IM me and I'll send you my address. I (we) humbly thank you in advance!

From a fellow traveler along the road of love and compassion for our fellow human beings, and with many blessings,

Dr. Robyn Alley-Hay

We leave in three days! Yikes! One minute I am excited and looking forward to seeing those I already know and those that will be my new friends and patients; the next moment, as I huff and puff up the trail here in New Mexico, I dread it. Luckily, excitement and purpose win over any discomfort!!
Thank all those that have donated. Even though I am not at my goal (yet), I do have a small amount to spend on hosting the Ashas (village nurses) and Midwives. Thank You, Thank You.
Blessings to all,
Robyn

Faces of the people of Zanskar. Only 5 days before I leave and I am halfway to my fundraising goal. I have enough raised for food and shelter for myself, but not not yet enough to expand teachings to other villages and provide meals for the village midwives and Ashas (an Asha is a lay nurse for a village)

9 days left and still time to donate elastic braces (knee, back, wrist, ankle), reading glasses and sunglasses . I met this beautiful woman at HHDL teachings in Padum last summer. She is one of the lucky elders that has had access to corrective glasses at some point in the last years. Her one good eye saw through to me...
If you are able, please consider a donation for HandsOnGlobal thru this campaign or at HandsOnGlobal.org. If you are unable to donate $, please donate prayers and well wishes for the team, the lovely people of Zanskar, India, and for all sentient beings.

Julley!! 10 days to go! It is amazing how things come together in a hurry the last couple weeks before the team leaves for India. We purchased a portable video colposcope that I am trying to figure out, however there are no instructions! We’ll figure it out and we have a plan B and a plan C even. I am starting to receive donations of knee, back, wrist, ankle braces-hope to gather more this week!
Please click and share-41 shares so far.
For those not able to donate financially, please consider adding your love and prayers for our team and our mission. Feel free to message me or post them! I really really have times that I call on them!
Blessings, Robyn
