I, Kailey Cardona, and my two friends, Rhiannon Kimball and Kiara Bartlett, are student volunteers that have dedicated our time for the past two years at Marshall Academy to choreograph and teach the after school program, Diversity Dance. We are students at Marshall High School that have grown up together as dancers at, Dance Dynamics, a dance studio located in Marshall, MI. We spend 6-10 hours a week learning the different genres of dance such as: hip-hop, jazz, tap, and ballet. Our huge passion for dance, and our desire to unite the students of the Marshall and Albion communities has lead us to the creation of the Diversity Dance Team. Our motto is "united we dance, divided we fall."
Diversity Dance Team is a free afterschool program for grades 2-7. Our mission is to express the values of effort, respect, and self confidence through something as simple as dance. With kids coming from different socioeconomical and cultural backgrounds, it is our job to celebrate all of our differences, learn from one another, and unite as a team. Throughout the past two years, our dance program has been very successful. Diversity Dance has been the largest after school program at Marshall Academy. Due to the growing interest in our program, we now hold two classes per week to accomodate all 50 kids.
If you donate to this program, you will be providing these students with an extra-curricular activity that they love and look forward to each week. You will give them the opportunity to be part of a team. All proceeds will be used to provide after school snacks, t-shirts for performances, and team bonding activities. Any additional funding will help support our summer dance program, "Dance in the Park." This program invites children, of all ages from the Marshall and Albion Communities, to gather at Victory Park two evenings a week throughout the summer to learn hip hop, jazz, and experience freestyle dance. Please help us continue our dance programs and turn the vision of three high school girls a reality.
