Dustin Barr has a rare Sarcoma Cancer. He has been fighting the battle of his life time since he was 17 years old.

Dustin has been very strong throughout his battle with cancer and has achieved a Golf Scholarship while undergoing chemo and several operations (I lost count).

Each time Dustin had an operation he bounced back with even more of a fight.  Dustin has been so strong throughout this ordeal and has shown us all how to persevere and triump.

We just found out that his cancer is back and has spread. We originally were told that the cancer was in one lymph node and chemo and an operation will likely work since it was caught early. However, they are now saying that it is in many lymph nodes and inoperable based on his latest CT Scan.

This is devastating news and has hit our family and friends, but mostly Dustin very hard.  It is devastating to watch someone as strong and brave as Dustin feel like he is losing the battle.  Even though he is 21 years old now, he will always be my sweet little nephew in my mind and heart.

So....we need your help.  When Dustin was first diagnosed we set up a panel discussion with doctor's from Canada and the US and I think even Europe through Champions Oncology in the US  https://championsoncology.com .  Sarcoma experts from around the world helped put a plan together to save Dustin and the Canadian Doctors carried out the plan and saved his life and his hip and pancreas.

We need a follow up panel in order to have the experts tell us what the next best steps are for Dustin. We need to pull together to save his life.

Our goal is lofty and we hope to achieve it as quickly as possible in order to get the answers we need as soon as possible.  The funds would pay for the panel as well as help with travel for family and Dustin's very special and supportive Girlfriend so he has as much support as possible.

We have had many generous supporters in the past and a lot of people have been asking how they can help.  Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Below is a link to an article that was written about Dustin in Golf Canada just over a year ago.   http://golfcanada.ca/news/article/amateur/canadian-dustin-barr-wins-first-junior-tournament-following-successful-bout-cancer/

If you do a Google search on "Dustin Barr Golf" you will see other articles that were written about him as well.

Thanks in advance for your help. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. It adds up.

Tomorrow is a big day. Dustin is getting his CT Scan tonight and we will find out the results in the morning.

We really appreciate all of the support we are getting both financially and spiritually. Please keep Dustin and his family in mind over the next few days as we figure out how to navigate the next steps.

Leanne, Dustin and I are going to New York to see a Sarcoma expert in order to get a second opinion. We will bring the CT Scan results and have already sent the rest of Dustin's medical history in advance.

We would not be able to make this trip without your support. Thank you everyone. Please say an extra prayer for good results and positive steps forward over the next little while.

Hi. I am posting an update that I just posted to Dustin's FB account. We appreciate all of the support we have received and want to let everyone know where things are at...as much as we can. We also want to let everyone know how much your donations are helping to open up the options for Dustin. Dustin is stronger than all of us put together. He amazes me.

Thought it was time to post an update on Dustin James Barr.
We don't have a lot of additional information. We have a lot more questions than answers. We are doing our best to get the most information we can and will continue to keep you informed as much as possible.
We are waiting on a CAT Scan that will be done in the next couple of weeks. Dustin has been in Toronto for chemo almost weekly. They have modified his chemo and have taken out one of the chemo drugs that he did not tolerate well. He was taking two different chemo meds and is now on one that he tolerates better.
He has lost most of his hair. The chemo that he is on now does not have the side effect of hair loss. We are just wondering if his hair will grow back while on this chemo. He is not losing more but it would be nice for him if he could get his hair back.
I have a specific request for help and would really appreciate if someone would research "Gemsidabin" to find out if his hair will grow back. Please PM me with any info you have. I just haven't had time lately and it's on my mind.
The CT Scan will tell us if his disease is localized or not. If it is localized (in one location) then they will likely do a bit more chemo and then surgery to remove the tumour.
If it is not localized then he may not be able to get surgery. This is what we are researching now and getting second, third opinions on. It will depend on what is seen on the CT Scan. If there are a lot of tumours then the suggestion it to treat with chemo long term. Dustin would be able to go to school but would have chemo 1x per week. We would need to figure out how to get him Chemo in the US (Georgia).
So, we have several options that we are looking at. We have an appointment with a Sarcoma expert in NY in mid November. We are hoping to have the CT Scan results before then.
This post is getting long so I will just lay out the other options we are looking into. Thank goodness for the generosity of Dustin's supporters. We have been able to raise funds on the GoFundMe account to allow us to consider these options.
Mouse trials. Inject mice with Dustin's cancer and they develop it...they then try different chemo drugs to find out what works best on his type of cancer. It is unique to Dustin.
Genetic testing. Dustin, Leanne and Jim have had their blood drawn for genetic testing through sick kids that may tell us more about what could help combat this disease based on genetics...specific to Dustin. We should have the results soon (we hope).
Champions Oncology Panel Discussion - Sarcoma experts from around the world on a conference call to discuss Dustin's case and provide treatment options. This is what saved him on his first occurrence. It is expensive so we are trying to do specific consults with renowned US Doctors first.
I am sad. It is so hard to see Dustin sick when he was doing so well. He has tolerated the chemo lately but after the last chemo session he was so sick we didn't know if we could get him on the plane to get him home. Thank god for Kristen Catherine. She is calm and caring and knew how to treat him. <3
You support means a lot. There is a lot going on. We are grateful.
If anyone got through this entire post <3 <3 extra love! Thanks.
