Every now and then a door opens and the desire to say YES is so compelling that any alternative pales in comparison. I stand at the threshold of an amazing opportunity to learn, grow, further my mindfulness practice and extend my abilities to serve. The only obstacle now is financial, so I am reaching out for your help!
I've been accepted to attend the:
Foundations in Buddhist Contemplative Care Training Program
This is the first step toward a Master of Arts in Pastoral Care and Counseling offered by the partnership of the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care and the New York Theological Seminary.
The part I'm asking for help with is toward the first 8 credits of this 48 credit program. It is a 9 month immersion where I will begin to train to become a caregiver in hospitals, hospices, and other places where spiritual care is needed. This is an opportunity to be of service to those who require quality and skillful support when they or loved ones are ill, grieving or at end of life. I bring to this program an 8+ year mindfulness practice, coaching and mentoring training, an ongoing comittment to compassionate, active listening and ability to create space for others to feel held and seen with dignity and respect.
The Foundations in Buddhist Contemplative Care Training Program would allow me to go deep into the perspective of contemplative care with other like-minded people and leaders in the field of Buddhist caregiving. It is the first step in chaplaincy training, including a requisite of ongoing volunteer caregiving work so that what I am learning can go to immediate benefit in the world.
Your support will go directly toward:
- Pastoral Care and Counseling Course fees - Zen Center for Contemplative Care ($3,700)
- Literature and Supplies ($245)
- Travel, Lodging and Fees for curriculum based retreats ($400)
- GoFundMe Fees and taxes
- The opportunity for me to be a better volunteer service worker and caregiver.
- The opportunity for me to be able to offer spiritual care including attending the sick and dying, performing ritual, and offering spiritual direction.
