Deacon Kurt Maskow

Donation protected
We pray for Deacon Kurt Maskow and call on St Anthony of Padua, The Great Orator, to intercede in his healing.

Last year, Deacon Kurt, of St Catherine of Siena in Carrollton, TX, reported that he had mouth cancer and would be undergoing surgeries to remove the cancerous tissue.  This included half of his tongue, lymph nodes, and saliva glands.  The two surgeries were completed earlier this year and Deacon Kurt is in severe pain and is healing but will require additional treatment including speech therapy before his healing is completed.

He continues to recover from the two surgeries he had for cancer, and began treatment this week with the head and neck oncologists. He will be having radiation for 6-7 weeks, 5 times a week beginning mid-February. The doctors feel that this will give Deacon Kurt the best chance. He may also still need to go through a course of chemotherapy.  Some of the therapy is very expensive and is not covered by insurance.

Deacon Kurt moved here from the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio, and was instrumental in bringing Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) to St Catherine of Siena.  Kurt brought CRHP to SCS from St. Ann’s in Coppell after he and John Kalchbrenner made a weekend there. In addition to CRHP, Kurt and Sonny Cruz led the food drive together for a while, Kurt has been an RCIA sponsor, Lector, and Eucharistic minister. Kurt and I were circle leaders for Marriage Encounter and sponsor couple for engaged couples for several years. We also taught CCD classes together. Kurt also served on the Board of Directors for the Metrocrest Social Services in the 80’s. Although ill himself, he  focuses on helping those who are suffering with illness and the elderly, and helping with memorials. He is dedicated to helping with the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrations. Kurt has served SCS pastors Fr. Bob Whitfill, Fr. Richard Weaver, Fr. Tom Craig, Fr. George Thennattil, Fr. Mathew Kavipurayidam, Fr. Augustine Kolapuram, and Fr. Sushil Tudu over a span of 30+ years of volunteering at St. Catherine of Siena beginning after moving to Carrollton in 1981. Fr. Tom Craig encouraged Kurt to explore becoming a Deacon, and Kurt was ordained in 2003 during the time that Fr. George was pastor. Kurt is a faithful 4th degree Knight of Columbus and supports their many causes.

Up until his disease, Deacon Kurt had been supportive of the Knights of Columbus including leading the family rosary at their open meetings on first Monday and after Stations of the Cross during the Lenten seasons.

Please continue to pray for Deacon Kurt and support his family by donating to this fund and relieve his family of the financial burden that they face.
