Dayum Jam 'N Waffles Food Trailer

Donation protected

Hi Dayum Friends, Fans, and other folk!

Dayum this is my Jam has been a jammy journey filled with ups and downs -- for those of you who might not know me, I'm Abby, the co-founder and CJO (Chief Jamming Officer).

I started Dayum Jam in July 2015 with my best friend, Lindsay, as a side project, because at my full-time job I felt overlooked and as though my creative fire was far from burning bright. Dayum Jam served as a fun outlet to meet amazing folks in Richmond, VA and surrounding communities, make delicious products using all-natural ingredients, and of course -- spend time with my bestie.

From there, Dayum Jam has grown -- but my worklife remained full of struggles. I've spent long hours working hard, I'd take the stresses of work home, and for almost a decade I went from one toxic work environment to the next. These struggles are something a lot of folks don't about -- but, even though inclusion in the workplace has come a long way, discrimination against LGBTQ folks is still very much a reality. Unfortunately, this has been the case for me.

I've had promotions withheld because of my queerness, I've lost a job because I spoke out about my being sexually harassed, and have had leaders say such atrocious and oppressive things I've come home crying seeking solace in the arms of the one person who truly sees me and accepts me, my amazing and supportive wife, Jesse.

For years, I've thought that there's got to be a better life for me in the workplace, and since Jesse and I have just welcomed our first child...my priorities have drastically changed --  So, this little food trailer is a giant step, a giant symbol towards that dream. The dream to someday "be my own boss," and to be the type of leader to my team that I've rarely had -- someone kind, inclusive, and compassionate.

The plan is to serve up our piping hot waffles topped with delicous things like: fresh fruit/berries, whipped cream, and of course our special recipe "Drizzle Jam!"

I'm putting down a bit of my own hard earned cash as a down payment, but to pay for the whole thing AND get it tricked out with all the equipment, cooking supplies, and generator I'll need will cost more than $10k. Asking for help is hard, and there are so many worthy causes out there. But I'm hoping amaing folks out there and LGBTQ allies will support this Dayum dream and ya'll can find room in your hearts (and tummies) to help Dayum Jam obtain one tiny...but mighty...food trailer!
