Dave Dempsey Recovery Fund

$29,110 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 396 people in 43 months
This fund has been created by friends of Dave Dempsey, a 30-year law enforcement veteran in Greenville County, SC. Dave sustained a gun shot wound to the head while on duty Thursday, December 10, 2015. You can read more about his situation here , or read an update from his wife below.

Dave has made a career in law enforcement. He does it because it’s his passion and because he loves this community, not because it’s giving him a nest egg.

Worker’s Comp will cover his immediate medical expenses but, with such a serious injury, we know he could need long-term physical therapy or other medical attention.

If he is unable to return to work, the family will be stretched very thin with general expenses and the mortgage. Though Dave and Amy lead a simple life, they have young kids in the house to consider, and Amy is scheduled to return to school next month to continue pursuing her degree.

----

A note from Amy:

As I finally sit alone and quiet (a little too alone and little too quiet). BUT, I need for all of you to know...each and every call, (missed call), text (missed text), every post, comment, like, message means so so much to us. I don't always get the text or call or message at that moment, but I do see it later in moment of quietness. I feel your prayers. God is pleased with your fervent prayers. God wants All of us to Pray to Him.
Glory be to God for Dave's life and for every breath he is taking. Glory be to God for every thumbs up, wiggle of the toes, squeezing of the hands, a little nod, and amazingly opening his left eye a little today!!
A lot of people have been asking me how am I doing?
I have felt the comfort and security from the Holy Spirit this whole time...Just like the Apostle Paul writes that the Lord is "the God of all comfort".
I am keeping strong bc Elohim is my strength but l feel a heaviness weight and lump in my chest and throat at all times since the early 2 am morning of Dec 10th 2015.
I am full of powerful truth because the past 5 years my life, my ears, and my eyes have be saturated with Gods word, but I feel empty and so alone without my love, my Priest.
My heart aches for Dave's sons and I desperately call out to our Father for comfort for them. They are such good men.
I'm very tired physically, emotionally, and mentally. I miss my kids deeply! I miss Dave immensely and I want no one but him.
That knock at the door at 2am keeps playing over and over in my head. Seeing those two silver stars on the uniforms thru the glass window. All us Police, Firemen, Military wives and husbands, its what we don't think would happen to us, AND we always deeply hope it doesn't ever happen to US. That knock changed my life. Its made me see that today is the day to love and respect my husband like the Son of God he is.
"Wives, we must respect our husbands on high"
The way he leaves his clothes BESIDE the laundry basket and the hair he leaves in the sink suddenly doesn't matter to me anymore.
I need for him to come home and drink out of the milk jug and put dishes in the sink for me to clean up.
This just doesn't seem real. I still kinda have a hope of maybe I'll wake up and its a dream. Im quickly reminded by the Holy Spirit: this isn't a dream. There is a plan in place( and we are apart of it), and Adonai will provide a way to bear it. So the answer to the question, "how am I?"
"Im Blessed Beyond what I deserve and I have Joy that cant be reached and embraced without Yeshua!"
Because my husband is alive!
I just really really miss you Dave Dempsey!

Dave is working real hard to get back to himself. Daily living is a struggle, but he is still improving. He's learning how to care for himself, as in daily grooming and fixing a pot of coffee again. Continue to pray for strength and perseverance. Stay strong. Dempsey strong. Jesus strong!

Dave had his first appointment with the neurosurgeon yesterday since he has left the hospital. After having a CT scan and evaluation, Dr.Webb decided that it would be another 3 to 6 months to put the skull back on, due to significant brain swelling still present.
He is having severe pain in his right ear, due to ... The surgeon had to cut and pull down the muscle on the right side above the ear, in order to pull the scalp all the way down, to perform the surgery. The surgeon stitched it back, and said it would take a long while to heal.
Thank u so much for your continuing support. We love you!

Deputy Dave Dempsey will be leaving Roger C Peace Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. to come home. He is only coming home at about 70%, but once he is home he will continue to work with physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy as an out-patient with RCP for at least 12 weeks. His physical part is coming along pretty well and is about 70%. His mental capabilities are coming along slow at about 60%. Where the bullet had hit, was the "detail" and "decision making" part of the brain, which is very hard for him with being a carpenter. With him at home around his surroundings, will boost his brain to relearn with speed and accuracy. Thank you for praying, keep lifting my husband in prayer. It pleases God!
Thank u for supporting us!

Dave is trying harder and harder every day. The day is coming that he will walk out of this hospital and come home to us! Little Allison loved seeing him walk yesterday. She would even hold his cup of water until he would take a break, and then hand it back to him. It was the first time she has saw him out of bed since this has happened, and she was very excited about it.

I wish I could donate but I'm unable to at this time but I do want to say your husband saved my life. He arrested me a while back and I was strung out on drugs really bad. He talked to me like a person and encouraged me to get off the drugs and that I had a lot of potential and I was important. That stuck with me and because of those few words I am now back in college pursuing my degree, clean and sober, and I have an amazing job with benefits. Your husband and your family remain in my prayers! The world needs more men like him!

GOD WORKS WHILE WE WAIT REFLECTION If we are honest, we all hate to wait. In fact, most often we say something like, “I can’t believe this is taking so long; it’s costing me time I don’t have!” That’s because most of us consider waiting to be wasting. But it’s not so with our God. God works while we wait. Even when you can’t see what He is doing, God is always orchestrating the events of heaven and earth to accomplish His purposes for your life. Trust in His unfailing love—love that moved Him to send a Savior from heaven to restore and rescue you. God’s plans for your life will not be thwarted. Wait patiently, knowing that waiting is never wasted when you are waiting on God. MEDITATION Come Thou Long Expected Jesus Come, Thou long expected Jesus Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee Israel’s Strength and Consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear Desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart. Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a King, Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring. By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all sufficient merit, Raise us to Thy glorious throne. Charles Wesley, 1707–1788 PRAYER Father, I am here waiting for You. My heart and hands are open to Your purposes and plans for my life. Give me the patience I so desperately need and lead me in my waiting. Though my feelings may not be there just yet, I believe You are moving on my behalf right this minute, protecting, defending, preparing, providing. Give me grace to keep trusting in You in the face of the gale force winds of doubt that are blowing all around me. Anchor my heart in You. Amen. My prayers are with you everyday. Asking our Lord to heal Dave. That every day that passes we will see God's Hand at work. Love in Christ Our Lord, Sandra Crenshaw

I stumbled upon your GoFundMe page as I was looking at Johnny Daniel's page. His was right above yours. First of all, prayers to you, Dave and your entire family. Thank you for your service that you were doing when you were injured. May God send guardian angels to sit at your bedside to keep you safe and comfort you. May the doctors and nurses all be guided by the Great Physician and you will soon be able to open those eyes and see your beautiful wife as she sits in vigil with you. May you give her a big "thumbs up" when she is least expecting it. God sees your struggle and HE can make all of these things change. Have faith. Do not despair and give up. Asking for this miracle for you and your family.....that you would claim your miracle before the beginning on 2016. Start the new year out right .... with much rejoicing and praising. In Jesus name, I ask these things for Dave Dempsey so he can claim his recovery. Thank you Jesus........and AMEN

I've known Dave from the years we worked together at the GPD and always enjoyed talking with him when I had the opportunity. I am so sorry that Dave was injured that night but am praying that he will recover and get well from his injuries. Right now the Lord is your greatest strength and I pray for comfort and peace, along with pain relief for Dave. May God richly bless you both.

My prayers go out to Officer Dave Dempsey, his wife, kids, extended family and colleagues. Having moved to Greenville from NYC just over a year ago I am once again reminded that crime is prevalent even in small towns and our officers risk there lives everyday to ensure our safety. Dave was instrumental in our son Matt joining Greenville City Police Force. Matt said Dave was one of a few officers he held in very high esteem. When Matt passed away from cancer in January, 2001; Dave and 5 other police officers drove up to NY to be pall bearers in the funeral. Peace, prayers, & blessings to Dave & his family.
