Hello Family and Friends!

We are very excited to share our latest artistic endeavor with you all.  This fall, we applied to the Artist in Residence program at the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts in Frederiksted on St Croix, USVI  and we have been accepted!!

Dave and I will be going to St Croix in March 2016 for an entire month to make new work, teach workshops, lead drawing sessions, and to immerse ourselves in island life.

While on island, I will be making a new series of cyanotypes , the same alternative photo process used to make blueprints, and...

Dave will be painting and drawing new work to add to his body of land/seascapes.

Together Dave and I will lead weekly drawing sessions which will include drawing from life, exploring various media, and learning to see through drawing still lifes.  We will also be teaching cyanotype workshops for adults and children.

At the end of our residency we will have an exhibition, hosted by CMCArts, of our newly produced artwork  and we wish to donate a percentage of proceeds from work sold to the local coral reef restoration fund.

Monies raised for our residency will be used to pay for travel expenses, transportation, room and board at CMCArts, art supplies, teaching supplies, shipping, and maintenance on our home in Baltimore while we are away.

March is soon upon us and we would love to meet our goal by the end of February.  We are offering donor perks to show our thanks for your generous gift and investment in us and our work.

Perks:

$5-$20 a hand drawn Thank You card by Dave & Melissa

$21-$49 a hand tinted Octopus linocut by Dave & Melissa

$500+ an original painting by Dave.

Your gift means so much to us and we thank you for helping us make this once in a lifetime opportunity become a reality.  Those of you who know us well, know that besides being art lovers and artists, we are also nature lovers and SCUBA divers.  Dave and I are constantly amazed by all the beauty we see when we are able to explore the world under the water and it is our wish to maintain and conserve that realm for generations to come.  Coral reef restoration and conservation is so important to all life on our planet and we want to help in any that we can.  Your gift to us will not only let us go forth to make new and exciting work but also to help us make a positive impact on an island that we love above and below the water.
*paintings of Frederiksted, Annaly Bay, and The North Shore are oil on canvas by David Showalter.  The Paing of elkhorn coral is acrylic on canvas also by David Showalter.  The two ginkgo leaf images are cyanotype photograms with screenprinting on paper by Melissa Salzman.  You can see more of David's work here and you can see more of Melissa's work here.
