Damon's Firetruck Cancer Bell

Donation protected
It all started with a simple idea to promote July as National Sarcoma Awareness Month!

Damon is 12 years old and has Osteosarcoma.  He's been fight cancer for 2 years.  After being clear of Cancer for 8 months, it returned and last Novemeber it returned and his left arm had to be amputated.  Damon wanted to get a bell for University Hospital for all the kids suffering with Cancer to ring to celebrate when they are done with Chemo & have clean scans. Damon thought the best 'bell' is a Firetruck Bell! So we were going to start there!

Just so happens a pal of mine [Woody (who I worked with at KTFM)] just became the PR Director for the S.A.F.D. So I told him about Damon's idea. Woody LOVED it. Then Chief Hood LOVED it! Chief Hood loved it so much he went to the S.A.F.D. Fire Dept Museum to see if they could locate a bell. When they heard what it was for, they grabbed one off one of their classic Firetrucks. Not only that, but they had it sent out to get chromed. The S.A.F.D. just lost a couple of their own due to occupational cancer. Chief Hood and all the firefighters want to do this for the kids.

The Firefighters at Station 11 (where Damon recently visited) volunteered and want to build the display case for the bell to be put at the hospital. They are also going to put together a mural for the wall in the soon to be new pediatric oncology section of the hospital to make real exciting for the kids.

Okay, here is where we could use help. There is NO funding for this so the guys at Station 11 are paying for everything themselves.  Damon wants to help them with the cost to build it. He doesn't want the firefighters to spend the money or the hospital. He said this is his idea and he wants to see it to the end. Damon still has about another 3 months of Chemo, but he REALLY wants to do this for the kids.

Damon's 'little' idea is more than just about kids with Cancer.  It's about hope!  It's about giving kids something to look forward to.   But there is more than just the kids.  This is a way Damon, the Hospital, the SAFD and you can help honor all the very brave Firefighters who's lives were claimed by ocupational cancer due to the hazards they face saving lives everyday.

Any help we can get we'll take!  All proceeds will go to build the display case so it looks great sitting in the hospital for the kids.  It will help with the mural and if there is any left over will go to Charity!

God Bless!!
