            RESCUE TEAM LAUNCHES FUNDRAISER

Funds will Buy Vehicle, Vital to Search and Rescue Efforts

After 19 years and  437 rescues throughout the state, the Desert Sheriff's Search and Rescue team is now in rescue mode to save itself – and more specifically replace a 19 year old vehicle that is essential to the team’s services.

We currently use a 1996 Ford F350 to transport the critical rescue equipment and personnel to the trailhead. In the last year this rapidly aging vehicle has been in the shop for repairs 5 times and unable to deliver the vital equipment which could have made recent rescues quicker and more efficient. This vehicle serves as the main equipment transport for all of our searches. To replace this truck we need to raise $125,000. All we need to reach our goal, is for 1250 people donate $100 each.

We could reach that goal even quicker, if we could secure a large donor.

The Desert Sheriff's Search and Rescue (DSSAR) team, is one of the premier Search and Rescue (SAR) teams in Southern California. Along with our sister teams, we are responsible for search & rescue operations in one of the most populous counties in California and the 11th largest in the US. With an area of over 7,000 square miles, our team needs to be prepared to handle a variety of environmental and terrain challenges. In addition to handling calls within our county, we also regularly respond to mutual aid calls up and down the state. We are called upon 30-40 times a year to search for lost and injured hikers. Sometimes it is a single hiker separated from his/her group other times it’s an urban search for a lost child or Alzheimer's patient.

Though the Sheriff's Department provides some assistance, much of our income comes from fundraisers and out of the pockets of the volunteers on the team. With small coffers, we are struggling to replace this critical piece of equipment that has reached the end of its useful life.

We are a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax deductible.  Email us and we can supply you with our Federal Tax ID for your deduction.
