Love for Doug

LOVE for Doug:  Doug's Cancer Fund

It could’ve been me or you…my family or yours.  To say that Doug and Deni are the average family next door is an understatement.  Doug is 53 years old and a hard-working family man.  An electrician, a volunteer fire fighter, a safety trainer for the fire fighters, and in years past, a business owner.

Doug is a loving husband to Deni and a hands-on dad to three kids Joe 25, and Chelsea and Michael (23).  Recently he has become a proud new grandfather to Allie - Daughter of Michael and Amber.

Doug and Deni live a faithful life and always have something to share with their many friends and family.   We ALWAYS know their door is open to us.

And then everything changed.  In Feburary 2016, Doug was admitted to Abbot hospital with severe pain.   Various tests indicated possible cancer.    Hence the roller coaster began.   At first the thought was this was a cancer that could be easily treated with antibiotics, H Pylori.   However, the odds were not in their favor and further tests and consultations revealed stage IV stomach cancer.

Doug completed his first round of chemo which the doctors were pleased with the results.    Unfortunately after the next round, it was determined the chemo was having little affect and left Doug drained of his energy.

After a break to regain some strength, further tests revealed the cancer had spread.

Doug is currently in the hospital with various connections draining fluid from his stomach and from his gut area.

Because of the aggressive treatment of his cancer, Doug had only been able to work on a limited basis and recently had to stop working all together.

Deni who is trying to spend as much time as she can with Doug, has also had her work schedule greatly reduced.

Friends and family.  Doug and Deni need our help.   With Doug unable to work and Deni's limited work capacity as she cares for Doug, the money they are bringing in is NOT meeting their needs.   Their insurance premium alone is over $1,300/month.    That doesn't even account for all the other expenses;  mortgage, gas, groceries, etc., not to mention all the other medical bills increasing the debt.

While we never give up hope for a miracle, we should not forget the miracle that God has already bestowed upon us by bringing Doug into our lives.    I'm asking that we all support Doug and Deni and provide a tremendous outpouring of love for Doug and his family.

When Doug was first diagnosed with this horrible disease, he said he was not afraid of the pain.  He was not afraid of the disease.  He was not afraid of death.  His only fears were of what he may miss… walking his daughter down the aisle one day, Joe’s exciting conquests, teaching Michael’s child to fish, etc.  None of us are in a position to grant Doug the experiences he fears he will miss, but we can give him a powerful experience of seeing the best this world has to offer:  kind-hearted, compassionate people reaching out helping each other.

Please, help us help them however you can. Even small donations will make a difference.   Just sharing this information with your contacts can make a difference. You can help us make all the difference in the world for Doug and Deni at this time.

Our meaning in life is found in moments like this.   You know Doug and Deni would do the same for each one of  you.   Our gratitude for your willingness to help is inexpressable.
