Duluth Public Schools Academy, also known as Duluth Edison Charter Schools is charter school district 4020-07 in Minnesota.  We operate two schools:  North Star Academy serving 1100 students in grades K through 8, and Raleigh Academy serving 300 students in grades K through 5.

We started our robotics program 4 years ago with one team from a generous donation from a parent.  Since then, we have worked hard to raise enough money to support 4 FLL (First Lego League) teams and 1 FTC (First Tech Challenge) robotics teams.  We also have implemeneted a Lego Engineering curriculum in our 3rd and 5th grades.  Because of the success of our Engineering and Robotics programs, interest in robotics has really soared.  We have over 130 students in grades 3-8 who would like to join Robotics.  We currently have enough equipment to support around 40 students in our Jr. Academy (grades 6-8).   We would like to expand to our Elementary Academy (grades 3-5) as well as grow our Jr. Academy program.

We would like to raise up to $35,000 which would allow us to purchase the equipment to accommodate all of the interest in our Robotics program.  Each team (between 4-8 students) needs equipment, tournament fees, registration fees, competition equipment, as well as additional parts and pieces.

We have enough equipment to run our competition season with 5-6 teams this fall.  Any additional funds will be used to create Elementary teams that will have an informal competition season 2nd Semester which will then position them to compete in school year 2017.   It would be wonderful to have the funds by January of 2017.

The impact that Robotics has on the students involved has been tremendous.  We are passionate about STEM and STEAM education and our robotics program has allowed students to use those skills in real world applications in a way that is meaningful and important to them.  It ties all of the STEM and STEAM concepts together and shows students how their creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills can be used today as well as for the rest of their lives.

We have worked very hard to build the program to where it is, and are so proud that so many people would like to be a part of it.  It would mean so much to us, as well as all of the students who would like to participate, if we could raise the funds to add more teams.  A gift to this program will open the door for so many more students to explore the wonderful world of robotics as well as STEM and STEAM education.  We would be eternally grateful for any help in this endeavor!

We have set up different levels of sponsorship for donors who would like to be recognized for their generous help.  If you would like more information about these, please contact us by sending an email.
