Who are you?
I'm independent author T. L. Curtis. I started an LLC called Volo Press and would like to open a literacy center called 'The Den.' The sooner I get donations, the sooner The Den will come to life!
Why should I donate?
Because you want to. If you love to read, love to write, and support people becoming (more) literate, donating to The Den is exactly what you ought to be doing. Instead of that extra fancy coffee, that toy your child will break within a week, or buying products from millionaires who don't give back to your community, I certainly hope you will give at least $5.00 to the cause.
How much will it cost to visit The Den once it's opened?
Nothing! The Den is designed to be free for general use in most areas. Private conference rooms and work stations will be available for reasonable prices. The Den will also offer basic tools for reading and writing such as writing utensils, paper, books, and snacks.
However, if you want to sit and read, come start working on your next novel, or meet some colleagues to review a project you're working on, The Den is going to be your best choice over a library, restaurant, or book store.
What makes The Den different from a library?
1. Later hours (closing no earlier than 10:00 p.m. each business day)
2. Comfortable seating. None of those rock-hard chairs and benches.
3. No card or membership will be needed in order to use the wi-fi.
What makes The Den different from a book store?
1. Later hours. The Den would not close an earlier than 10:00 p.m. each business. Depending upon demand, it may even stay open later than that!
2. Comfortable seating. Including couches!Many bookstores try to limit how much time you spend in them without spending money by offering only some of the most limited and unpleasant seating they can buy.
3. No card or membership will be needed in order to use the wi-fi. No trying to rope you into becoming part of some mass marketing program they've launched.
4. More seating available. The Den will have enough seating to accommodate as many people as the fire department will allow. Again, because they don't want you to simply hang out and enjoy your books / writing, bookstores often have only a few tables, chairs, or benches available, even though the store may be able to hold 100 people. When you see customers sitting on steps and windows sills, you know you're in the wrong place!
5. No marketing announcements. The Den will not interrupt your reading or writing by announcing "sales" or begging you to join a mailing list or purchase a discount card membership.
What makes The Den different from reading / writing at a restaurant or cafe?
1. No noisy children or wailing babies
2. Comfortable seating.
3. No card or membership will be needed in order to use the wi-fi.
4. No noisy kitchen sounds or distracting cooking odors.
5. Working spaces designed with reading and writing in mind (not just eating).
What makes The Den different from reading / writing at home?
1. A productive atmosphere to help keep you motivated by working in close proximity to other writers.
2. The community literary bulletin board will keep you updated on the latest literary events at The Den and other venues in the area.
3. No roommates, children, or other relatives to distract you from your reading or writing.
When will The Den open?
That all depends on you and others like you. The sooner the funds needed to open are accumulated, the sooner The Den will be able to open.
How does a place like The Den help my community?
By providing a space for busy people who love to read to do so in peace and focus on their work.
By providing a space for young people to study and stay away from poor influences to engage in dangerous, illegal, or unhealthy activities.
